BMW 2-Series Specifications & Features

The light-size 2023 BMW 2-Series is a powerful entry-level luxury vehicle. The 230i and M240i, which are exclusively offered as coupes and have very different amounts of power, are both available with either rear- or all-wheel drive. The Toyota Supra 2.0 and several other BMW models share an inline-four turbocharged with 255 horsepower with the 230i. The M240i’s 382-hp, turbocharged inline-six engine is far more fun to drive. Sadly, there is no manual gearbox available. However, the most recent redesign of BMW’s smallest car has produced a deceptively rapid ride with good braking and a chassis that enjoys twisties. Despite its increased size, the back seat area is now less spacious than previously. The 2-series’ most crucial feature, though, is still true in current generation: it rewards adventurous driving at a fair price, especially in four-cylinder, 230i version.

What’s New?

There are just modest changes for the 2023 model year because the BMW 2-series underwent a complete redesign last year. In addition to dropping the Satin Aluminium exterior and Black High Gloss interior trim choices from its build sheet, BMW now comes standard with a new, curved gauge cluster display. BMW’s interior design language isn’t very innovative, but it’s boosted by superb construction and pleasurable ergonomics. The new 2-series’ interior features the ubiquity of the brand’s style and organisation. A 12.3-inch completely digital instrument panel and a head-up display are options in addition to the usual set of analogue gauges. The front seats could definitely use more support.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in the 230i produces 255 horsepower, while the 3.0-liter inline-six in the M240i has 382 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are both options for the 230i and M240i. There is only the option of an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The 230i tested out at 101 mph completed a quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds and hit 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. The M Sport and Dynamic Handling packages, which come with 19-inch wheels and performance tyres, a sportier suspension, more powerful brakes, variable-ratio steering, and an electronically controlled rear differential, are the best options for those looking to get the most performance out of the 230i. The M240i comes with the majority of these extras as standard equipment. However, we wish it had greater steering feel, just like many of the most recent Bimmers.

A physical volume knob is also gratefully provided by BMW. Every model comes included with a 10-speaker audio, a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto hotspot, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. A 14-speaker, 464-watt Harman Kardon configuration is available as an upgrade for those who desire a more potent audio system.

We believe the 230i with rear-drive is the best option. Although its 255-hp turbo four isn’t nearly as speedy as the M240i’s 382-hp straight-six, the addition of the Dynamic Handling and M Sport packages made it a joy to drive. The former necessitates the latter, but their combination of performance enhancements (larger wheels with stickier tyres, tighter suspension components, better brakes, etc.) and distinctive cosmetic treatments is highly desired.

Sweet, quick, and enjoyable; excellent brakes; the twin-kidney grille is the appropriate size. As cute as a pug, no manual, and a little back seat. Even in base form, the 2-series coupe is exciting, but the exterior appearance lacks detail.
