Maserati Levante Specifications & Features

Italy has a significant cultural impact across the world because of, among other things, its delectable cuisine, luxurious automobiles, and elegant clothing. While skipping the marinara, the 2023 Maserati Levante excels in both performance and appearance. Either a twin-turbo V6 or twin-turbo V8 engine, the latter of which can produce up to 580 horsepower, is located under the hood of the Levante. As soon as you step inside, you’ll see how luxuriously appointed the Maserati interior is, including optional leather and silk upholstery from renowned fashion brand Ermenegildo Zegna. Unfortunately, simple switchgear took from the Chrysler parts bin shares closet space with Levante’s finest clothing. But if you ignore that, the Levante exhales a musical soundtrack and punchy acceleration. You can’t get its unique blend of flair and panache from an Acura or a Lincoln.

What’s New?

With the addition of the Grecale crossover to the range, the Levante’s status has improved this year from being the only SUV offered by Maserati to becoming the marque’s halo SUV. The Levante’s price has climbed by almost $12,000 to avoid competing with its new younger sibling for customers, but other than that, nothing else has changed. However, according to Maserati, the V-8 engine will no longer be produced after 2023, so if you’re interested in a Levante with that engine, now is the time to move forward. To properly bid the eight-cylinder farewell, a special edition Levante V8 Ultima will be made available in a small number of units.

The Levante plays one of the finest soundtracks, while not being the fastest or most powerful performance-oriented luxury crossover. Most Levante variants have a twin-turbocharged V6 engine under the hood that sends its 350 horsepower or 430 horsepower in the Modena to all four wheels via an eight-speed automated transmission. A 2017 V6-powered Levante outperformed the Mercedes-AMG GLE53 with a zero-to-60-mph time of 5.1 seconds. The twin-turbo V8 powering the Modena S and Trofeo versions has 550 and 580 horsepower, respectively. In testing, a GTS reached 60 mph in under 3.8 seconds, compared to 3.6 for a Trofeo. The Levante’s ride is harsh on all but the smoothest road surfaces when the adaptive shocks are in sport mode. Although the suspension is not very supple when the shocks are set to their normal position, the ride is significantly more comfortable in comfort mode.

The Levante is not a fuel-sipper on paper. In actuality, compared to other V6s, its EPA estimations for V6 models—16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway—are more competitive with V8-powered rivals. The cars with V8 engines scored 13 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

Although we haven’t had a chance to test out Maserati’s newest infotainment system, the 8.4-inch touchscreen on the Levante is claimed to display it brilliantly. The infotainment system’s display may be used to handle the majority of vehicle features, including the climate controls, but it also has a voice-activated virtual assistant. SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are included as standard features. Additionally included is a wireless charging pad. While an eight-speaker audio system is the default, customers can choose to upgrade to a 14-speaker Harman/Kardon arrangement or a 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system.

Although it significantly increases the cost, we’d choose the Modena S variant with its seductive-sounding 550-hp twin-turbo V-8. The Modena S also includes 20-inch wheels, a leather interior with embroidered door panels and a dashboard, and paddle shifters positioned on the steering column. All Modena S versions also include the Nerissimo Pack cosmetic kit, which adds darkened exterior trim for a more sinister appearance, as well as red-painted brake calipers.
