Mazda CX-30 Specifications & Features
If you have taste and tact, the 2023 Mazda CX-30 is the little SUV to buy. It is handsomely crafted and surprisingly enjoyable to drive. With a little bit more functionality, it has almost all the same maneuvers as the excellent Mazda 3 hatchback. It wears Mazda’s most recent design language fairly well and has a cabin lined with materials of a higher caliber, allowing you to act as though you spent more money than you did. Even while higher-end vehicles are more expensive than equivalently equipped Hyundai Kona and Volkswagen Taos models, they may even be claimed to compete with rivals like the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. The CX-30 is not an off-road vehicle, despite having a higher ride height than the Mazda 3, and it has a subpar base engine.
What’s New?
This year’s CX-30 receives just one update, but it improves the power and fuel economy of cars equipped with the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The adjustments are minor, though, as the engine’s horsepower rating rises from 186 to 191 and predictions for its fuel economy move from 24 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg in the combined range to 26 city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg overall. The interior of 2023 CX-30 is attractive and well-made; it is shared with the Mazda 3, which we adore. A row of climate control buttons separates the upper and lower dash panels, and an infotainment display protrudes from the center of the dashboard. It is operated by a rotary knob on the center console.
Mazda CX-30 Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration
A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower is the base model for the CX-30. This engine is mated to a six-speed automated gearbox that makes intelligent gear selections dependent on road conditions. 250 horsepower is available from an optional 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. If you enjoy driving the Mazda 3 hatchback, as we do, you’ll enjoy the CX-30 just as much. It’s quick, athletic, and entertaining. It is a pleasure to drive on a winding road because of its precise steering and fluid body movements, which also give the impression of stability when cruising. The CX-30 limped to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds during testing, slower than competitors like the turbocharged Kona but significantly quicker than comparable non-turbocharged SUVs like the Nissan Rogue Sport and the Subaru Crosstrek. With the optional turbocharged engine, the CX-30 achieved a 5.8-second 0-60 mph time and had noticeably faster acceleration.

Unfortunately, only the two most expensive grades come with an optional 250-hp turbocharged engine. We advise those buyers to stick with the Select trim because we believe the majority of individuals will find the standard offering to be satisfactory. The Select comes with keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning. The same 191-hp 2.5-liter engine is standard across the lineup for non-turbo trim levels, and all-wheel drive is available as an option. If you enjoy driving and have more cash to spare, buying the Turbo Premium can be worthwhile to access that extra horsepower.
