Mazda CX-5 Specifications & Features

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 not only lives up to the brand’s reputation for agile handling, but it also provides an almost luxurious experience at affordable prices. The CX-5 is one of our favorite small SUVs because of this unique combination of agile handling and upscale interior design, especially in higher-end variants with the available 256-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The base engine is a less powerful 187-hp four, but all models come standard with all-wheel drive and the CX-5’s nimble handling, which is enjoyable regardless of the engine you choose. The CX-5 isn’t great, but that depends on who you ask. It lacks the interior space of competitors like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Though few small SUVs can match the Mazda’s style, the CX-5’s charms are appealing in a market where practical options abound.

What’s New?

This year’s portfolio includes both the CX-5 and the comparably sized CX-50, sparking sibling rivalry within the same showroom, though Mazda says it intends to continue selling both cars for the time being. The 2023 CX-5 is mostly unaltered from the previous year, however, it now comes in a newly available paint shade called Rhodium White. If you wake up inside one of the top-tier CX-5 vehicles, you might believe that kidnappers in an Audi or a Mercedes have taken you away. It seems exceptionally upmarket because of its top-notch components and amazing layout.

Mazda CX-5 Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration

When leaving stoplights or rushing through town, the CX-5’s base 187-hp four-cylinder engine has excellent throttle response, making it feel faster than it is. It feels underpowered at faster speeds, like when passing or merging onto the motorway. The 256-hp turbocharged model that was being tested had substantially more rapid acceleration. AWD and a quick six-speed automatic gearbox go well with both engines. The CX-5 doesn’t require hard driving to be enjoyable or to recognize its superiority. Yes, it makes for one heck of a Sunday cruise with its accurate steering and calm corners.

But it also has the quiet ride quality of crossovers that cost twice as much and can withstand rough roads. There are no competitors that can match this seamless dynamic interaction. Road noise is barely audible, there are few flaws in the pavement, and the damping is neither stiff nor floaty. On curved roads, the Mazda also comes to life. Responses from the electrically assisted steering are pleasing. When the brakes are used, the brake pedal on the Signature model responds quickly and without being overly sensitive.

The CX-5, in our opinion, is best embodied in the Turbo trim. The 256-hp turbocharged engine upgrade improves the speed and athletic handling of the vehicle. With gloss-black elements that are exclusive to the trim, its exterior is elegantly athletic. With red accents and stitching, its interior reflects its sporty exterior.
