Mazda CX-50 Specifications & Features

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 SUV, a new brand in the portfolio, is well-equipped to compete with competing small crossovers like the Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Rogue, and Toyota RAV4. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower available naturally aspirated or a 256 horsepower turbocharged variant are both offered for the CX-50. All variants include all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic gearbox. Additionally, a hybrid vehicle with a Toyota powertrain is in the works. The CX-50’s dynamic handling is comparable to that of the tiny CX-30 crossover and the Mazda 3 compact vehicle because they all share the same platform. The CX-50 wears more rough styling, which is a departure from the more elegant, upmarket looks featured elsewhere in the Mazda portfolio, despite being only marginally bigger than the company’s CX-5 SUV.

What’s New?

According to Mazda, the brand-new CX-50 will be available alongside the slightly smaller CX-5, which is based on an older platform. It’s unclear how long the two will work as dealers together. The CX-50 offers a capacity for five passengers in two rows of seats, just like the CX-5 and CX-30 crossovers. The interior of the 50 has larger square dashboard vents than the smaller CX-30, giving it a little more truck-like appearance, but generally, it seems tastefully upmarket, especially in the equipped Premium Plus version.

All models will have a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, but the more potent turbocharged model with 256 horsepower is the one to choose. The standard non-turbo model only produces 187 hp. The CX-50 upholds Mazda’s tradition of providing fun-to-drive automobiles by coming standard with a six-speed automatic, all-wheel drive, and sharp handling. During the test drive, we commended the CX-50 for giving us a fun driving experience, precise steering, and a smooth ride. Later on, a hybrid vehicle with a Toyota powertrain will be added to the inventory. We anticipate it will be the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors producing a combined 219 horsepower found in the RAV4 Hybrid. While the turbocharged vehicle was able to accelerate to 60 mph on the circuit in 6.6 seconds.

The CX-50 with the standard four-cylinder engine is the most efficient. This model is expected to get 24 city mpg and 30 highway mpg, but installing the optional turbo only reduces those ratings by 1 mpg each while boosting performance.

The CX-50 is offered in a wide range of trim levels, from quite basic to downright opulent, but the Turbo model is what we’d suggest. It boosts towing capability to 3500 pounds and replaces the standard engine with a more potent 256-hp turbocharged four-cylinder. Several desirable features are also included as standard equipment, such as a panoramic sunroof, a 10.3-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and heated leather seats in the front.
