Mazda 3 Specifications & Features

The 2023 Mazda Mazda 3 aims to compete with more expensive vehicles yet being priced similarly to other compacts, and in many respects, it succeeds. Both the sedan and hatchback versions of the 3 are stylish and sporty vehicles. There are two four-cylinder engines available, one of which is a potent turbo, and you can even opt for all-wheel drive, although doing so means forgoing the superb six-speed manual. The Mazda 3 is designed for buyers who appreciate a satisfying driving experience and prefer superior interior materials in their little car. Other compact cars like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Volkswagen Jetta might seem more practical or have greater name recognition.

What’s New?

For 2023, Mazda will no longer offer the 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the 3’s base engine; instead, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder that was previously available as an upgrade will instead produce 191 horsepower. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder now has cylinder deactivation, which increases its fuel efficiency to 28 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway, according to EPA calculations. An all-wheel drive is now an option on the midrange Carbon Edition variant. All grades now come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

With the 3, Mazda offers two alternative engines, the base being a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 horsepower. With this engine, you can choose between front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive on the Carbon Edition and Premium grades. Only the most costly variants come with the 250-hp 2.5-liter turbo engine. If buyers choose a front-wheel drive, they can receive a six-speed manual. If all-wheel drive is used, a six-speed automatic gearbox is required. Only the turbocharged engine makes the 3 satisfyingly speedy, even though all 3 are responsive to gas-pedal inputs. The turbocharged engine tested out quickly, reaching 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds. Both the hatchback and sedan offer a smooth ride and maintain composure on straight and winding routes. It features taut body control, steering that feels intuitive and a strong ride that doesn’t punish passengers when driving over bumpy roads.

The standard infotainment screen size is 8.8 inches, but it appears larger than it is thanks to a well-crafted bezel that floats between two dash pads that resemble pillows. The technology is simple to use and only requires a rotary knob positioned on the console. Although an optional 12-speaker Bose stereo system and SiriusXM satellite radio are available, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features.

The 3 hatchback is alluring due to its distinctive design, however, visibility is compromised by the hatch’s bulbous backside. We’d continue to use the sedan instead. A power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings and heated front seats are included as standard equipment when you choose the Preferred trim level. An all-wheel drive is an option on the Carbon Edition and Premium models, and it comes as standard on the Turbo vehicles, so those who want it must choose one of those.
