Competitors for the mid-engine 2023 McLaren 720S include the Lamborghini Huracán, Aston Martin DBS, Ferrari F8 Tributo, 296GTB, and 812 Superfast. But don’t worry—this automaker has a history of competing in Formula 1. Although the extent of technology transfer from racing is debatable, the company’s competitive spirit permeates this sinuous two-seater. Its appearance strikes a fine balance between being elegant and fiercely athletic, and its performance matches that. The 710-hp, twin-turbo V8, and dual-clutch transmission work together to accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in well under 3 seconds and generate enough momentum to propel it past the quarter-mile mark at more than 140 mph in under 10.5 seconds. Although it has incredible grip and agility, it does not penalize its passengers on bad roads.
What’s New?
Two additional exterior colour options—Storm Grey and Lava Yellow—as well as a branded armrest are added to the McLaren 720S for the 2023 model year. A three-year service plan has also been introduced by the company. The McLaren 720S’s manufacture ceased in December 2022, making this the model’s final year. Every 720S’s central component is its carbon-fiber tub, which protects occupants while assisting in weight reduction and ensuring stiffness. A two-seat cabin for the driver is housed inside of this compact construction. Although it has a less spectacular inside than Ferrari and Lamborghini’s competitors, it nevertheless has a beautiful look and great visibility from the outside.
Engine
A twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque powers both the coupe and convertible models. These totals pass through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. On testing, the 720S coupe accelerated to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and to 100 mph in 5.2 ticks. Although the 720S lacks conventional driver-assistance technology, it may be fitted with a number of practical extras that keep dings and scratches at bay.
Mileage
2023 McLaren 720S Mileage | City | Highway |
720S | 15 mpg | 22 mpg |
The 720S is EPA-rated for 15 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the motorway, and 18 mpg in the combined cycle. Although ratings for the 2023 model year have not yet been made public, we anticipate that they will remain the same because the mid-engine vehicle has not undergone any mechanical modifications.

Each 720S is equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen that is vertically oriented and has standard features like Bluetooth, a four-speaker audio system, and two USB connections. A 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system is an option for those who prefer a more potent sound system to muffle the twin-turbo V-8 scream of this six-figure supercar. Also, a track-data recorder (McLaren Track Telemetry) with or without three outside cameras is an optional feature that allows you to save lap times and recall racing-related memories.

More weight and less stiffness compromise most convertible supercars, but the 720S Spider is little impacted. The Spider is just as speedy as the coupe despite the retractable hardtop’s additional weight, and its open-air cockpit improves the driving experience. With its racy interior modifications and exterior additions made of carbon fibre, we’d pick it in the Performance trim. The electrochromic glass roof and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres would also be our choices for maximum stick. The only additional options we would want are the front and rear parking sensors, front-end car lift, and McLaren Track Telemetry with its lap-time recorder and three cameras because the personalization options are numerous and subjective.
