The most recent 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class car resembles a little S-class in many ways. It shares many of the same mechanical features as the brand’s flagship sedan and has a similar exterior and interior design. However, it is smaller and sportier to drive. Although the plush interior impresses with its high-end materials and contemporary display screens, we don’t like how many touch-sensitive controls there are. The C300 model comes standard with a smooth 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged engine, but if you want a C-class with a lot of power, check out the AMG C43 and C63 models. Although the standard C-class has strong performance, its chassis lacks refinement, making its ride uncomfortable on rough roads and its steering unresponsive. The C-class is a severe competitor in the compact luxury sedan market even though it may not drive as well as rivals like the BMW 3-series and Audi A4.

Mercedes did not alter the sedan for 2023; it had a revision for 2022. The coupe and convertible versions of the previous-generation C-class will continue to be offered through 2023, although we anticipate that they will eventually be replaced by the CLE class. The C-class’s high-tech interior is identical to that of the bigger S-class flagship. A digital gauge display, touch-sensitive controls, and several conveniences are standard on all models. Mercedes offers a long list of standard luxury items, including heated front seats with memory settings, a sunroof, open-pore wood trim, and aluminum highlights, in the new model, which has a steering wheel that resembles that of the S-class.

The same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower powers all 2023 C-class sedans, which sport the C300 logo on their svelte trunk lids. A 48-volt hybrid system that can momentarily provide up to 20 more horsepower enhances the turbo four. RWD is the default configuration, while AWD is still an option. The only available gearbox is a nine-speed automated. The AWD C300 4Matic outperformed the previous generation C-class by 0.1 seconds when it came to acceleration to 60 mph during testing. Although we anticipated nimble handling from a compact sports sedan, we were dissatisfied with the lack of steering feel and the choppy ride. The C300 stopped from 70 mph in just 154 feet thanks to its effective braking, but we would prefer a harder pedal feel.

According to the EPA, rear-wheel drive C-class models should achieve up to 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway; when all-wheel drive is installed, those numbers are reduced by 2 mpg to 24 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.

From the center console, a sizable 12.3-inch infotainment display rises vertically towards three circular air vents on the upper dashboard. The most recent version of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system is running on the touchscreen, which is slightly angled towards the driver for ease of use while driving. It includes the voice-activated digital assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and online connectivity through a Wi-Fi hotspot. All models also include a fingerprint sensor to authenticate the driver’s profile for memory settings and an 11.9-inch digital gauge display. Because it represents the most recent C-class generation, we would pick the C300 sedan.
