The 2023 Mercedes-Benz E450 All-Terrain, formerly known as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class station wagon, offers SUV-like functionality with a more elegant overall look and carlike ride and handling. The E450 All-Terrain can handle many of the same difficulties as your typical crossover thanks to its adjustable air suspension, and its 362-hp turbocharged inline-six engine has more than enough power to appease lead-footed drivers. If you require more space than five passengers, the third row of seats, which are rear-facing, is standard in the opulent interior. Although we prefer the E-class wagon’s more understated appearance to the All-Terrain’s fake-rugged aesthetic, we can see why Mercedes decided to go in this path as competitors like the Audi A6 Allroad and the Volvo V90 Cross Country are well-liked for combining wagon functionality with adventurous looks.
What’s New?
The E-class All-Terrain station wagon enters the new year with only metallic paint being added to the list of standard features for 2023. The E-class wagon has a spacious interior with plenty of capacity for passengers and freight, as well as a few surprises. There is a third-row seat that folds flat and faces the back, and a Benz-exclusive fragrance diffuser is an option. The fit and finish are excellent, and the materials used throughout the cabin are appropriately upscale. Although genuine leather is an option, the standard seats are upholstered in a passable imitation of leather.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration
The only engine available for the E-class All-Terrain is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 362 horsepower and a 48-volt hybrid system. All-wheel drive is required. It blasted to 60 mph on our test track in under 4.4 seconds. While we anticipated the E450 All-Terrain to have comparable ride and handling dynamics to the outgoing E450 wagon, the wagon’s handling has become a little more jittery as a result of the switch to a higher ride height and four-corner air suspension. Road imperfections are more noticeable than they used to be, and overall it seems like on-road refinement has regressed.

The E-class wagon is a technology showpiece for the Mercedes-Benz brand, with a widescreen infotainment display, standard navigation, and lots of connectivity. A big, high-resolution 12.3-inch screen that is hidden in the dashboard above four circular climate-control vents shows the advanced MBUX infotainment system. Standard features include Bluetooth phone and audio streaming with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB connectivity, as well as navigation with real-time traffic and weather updates. On the center console are a rotary knob and touchpad that work together to manage the system.

The E450 All-Terrain is only available in one trim, but there are other extras and packages available, all of which significantly increase the level of luxury. The price of this wagon can soon spiral out of control if you’re not careful, but we still advise splurging on the Premium package, Driver Assistance package, and massaging front seats.
