Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Specifications & Features
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a cozy workhorse with a dash of G-Wagen functionality. It can satiate the desires of both those who deliver and those who yearn for outdoor adventure because of its broad range of configurability. However, compared to full-size van competitors like the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster, its starting price is significantly more. Three four-cylinder engine options—two turbodiesels and one turbocharged gasoline engine—are available for the Sprinter, each mated to a nine-speed automated gearbox. The van’s optional 4Matic AWD system and that gearbox are comparable to those in Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles like the E-class and S550. Three different body styles—cargo, crew, and passenger—, as well as a dual-rear-wheel axle, are available for the Merc transporter.
For 2023, the Sprinter van’s engine lineup has changed and now only offers inline-fours with 168- or 208-horsepower turbodiesels and a 188-horsepower petrol engine. The 188-hp V-6 is no longer available. The former model’s seven-speed automatic gearbox has been replaced by a new nine-speed gearbox that is compatible with all engines. Longer first gear is used in a redesigned 4Matic all-wheel-drive system for improved acceleration and smoother operation. Instead of the previous 35-65 percent split between the front and rear axles found in the Sprinter from the previous year, power distribution has been modified to a 50-50 skew.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration
Three engine options are available for all Sprinter cargo, passenger, and crew vans. The base engine is a four-cylinder gas-fed turbocharged engine with 188 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The other possibilities are a higher-output 211-hp twin-turbo diesel with 332 lb-ft of torque and a 170-hp turbodiesel four-cylinder with 295 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic gearbox is used with each engine. For such a massive truck, that may not seem like much power, but it’s more than enough for lighter-duty chores. Every Sprinter van comes with rear-wheel drive as standard, while all-wheel drive is an option. In contrast, a four-wheel drive is also an option for the Ford Transit.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Mileage
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not estimate fuel economy for commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 8500 pounds.

In this class, in-cabin entertainment is rarely a top concern, therefore Mercedes keeps the most opulent interior hardware as optional extras. The default audio setup consists of a straightforward AM/FM radio with Bluetooth, a single USB-C connection, and a small LCD screen. The new system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen is part of the Premium package, while the Premium Plus option adds a 10.3-inch screen, navigation, and a wireless phone charging pad. Additionally, all option packages come with an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

The greatest Sprinter we can recommend is the one that meets your unique demands because there are so many different models and pricing ranges. We do advise saving some cash, though, for the option packages that come with the van’s available safety features. The Driver Convenience package, which includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and driver attention monitors, as well as the Premium package, are both highly recommended.
