Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Specifications & Features
The look of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is striking, and it comes with an excellent powertrain warranty. Unfortunately, the aging subcompact SUV from Mitsubishi only has those two qualities to recommend. Yes, it has recently undergone a cosmetic makeover, but those superficial improvements did nothing to address the dated interior layout and subpar cabin materials. Although AWD is standard, the four-cylinder powertrains are also subpar. The 2.0-liter engine’s standard output of 148 horsepower and the 2.4-liter engine’s optional output of 168 horsepower both offer uninspired performance and subpar fuel economy. The Outlander Sport will get people where they need to go without a hitch, but despite its stylish appearance and the “sport” in its name, it has a lifeless driving style.
What’s New?
The Outlander Sport has only seen one substantial alteration this year, and that is the removal of front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is now a standard feature on all models, which probably helped push up prices slightly from the previous model year. Large expanses of black plastic and an unimaginative dashboard design combine to give the Outlander Sport’s interior a decided bargain-basement feel, despite certain trims’ slight improvements. There are no leather seats available. For added flair, certain trims have red stitching on the seats. However, you cannot escape the subpar cabin atmosphere of the Mitsubishi no matter how much you pay.
Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration
The powertrain options for the Outlander Sport let buyers choose between two undesirable options. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder’s basic 148 horsepower makes it nearly intolerably slow. The faster, 168-hp 2.4-liter engine is only available in the most expensive, top-of-the-line GT variant and has worse fuel economy. An unrefined CVT is paired with both engines. The most recent Outlander Sport on test was able to reach 60 mph in 8.0 seconds, which is faster than several top competitors. The Outlander Sport will get you from point A to point B without incident, while not being particularly athletic. Although there is some body roll in the corners, it doesn’t feel unstable or tippy. Braking distances on the Outlander Sport are typical for cars in this class. When you press the brake pedal, it softens at first but then firms up and feels responsive.
Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Mileage
2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Mileage | City | Highway |
2.0L | 23 mpg | 29 mpg |
2.4L | 23 mpg | 28 mpg |
The Outlander Sport’s EPA ratings fall below those of its more contemporary competitors whether you select the optional 2.4-liter engine or the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The 2.0-liter is rated at 23 city mpg and 29 highway mpg. According to estimations, the 2.4-liter gets 23 city and 28 highway mpg.

The base model comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, but all subsequent trims have an 8.0-inch touchscreen with SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The latter has real volume and tuning knobs, which we usually enjoy, but it appears to have uninspired visuals and a small number of customizable settings. However, compared to rival models, the connectivity features of the Outlander Sport are outdated.

Buying the base model of an Outlander Sport will save you the most money. To make this Mitsubishi feel a little more like a new car than an old one, though, upgrading to the LE trim level unlocks some necessary options. The 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is the most noticeable of these. The upgrade also features interior red stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and black exterior highlights.
