Nissan Frontier Specifications & Features

The boxy 2023 Nissan Frontier, with styling influenced by the original Nissan Hardbody compact truck from the 1980s, is the finest it’s been in a long time. The Frontier has a more vintage look and feel than the mid-size pickups it competes with, like the Ford Ranger and Honda Ridgeline, despite being newer. A 310-hp V6 engine mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox with either rear- or four-wheel drive powers every Frontier. The Frontier comes with a standard 5.0- or 6.0-foot-long bed and is available as an extended King Cab or four-door crew cab. Nissan’s mid-size pickup is still a good deal, whether it’s the power-packed standard Frontier S work truck or the gravel-throwing Pro-4X off-roader with Bilstein dampers and skid plates.

What’s New?

Nissan has only made minor equipment revisions for 2023 because the Frontier entered its third generation last year. Only the crew cab SV trim now offers the Midnight Edition cosmetic option. The option adds other darker interior and exterior features in addition to 17-inch black wheels and external mirrors. The SV Convenience package, which was formerly an option, is now standard on the SV Crew Cab with the long bed. This adds a spray-in bed liner, heated leather steering wheel, heated front seats, and under-rail bed illumination. Pro-X and Pro-4X models now come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay, while the Pro Premium option now includes contrast stitching in lava red.

Nissan’s brand-new 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V6 makes its debut on the 2020 model, and it is carried over to the Frontier. The engine produces 281 pound-feet of torque and 310 horsepower. It works with either rear- or four-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Our initial driving experiences with the Frontier showed that its V6 engine operates smoothly and with enough thrust. driving the off-road-focused Pro-4X variant, even if it isn’t as capable as the Jeep Gladiator, which is ready and willing to take on difficult terrain. We also valued the Nissan’s improved steering, which is now quicker and more direct, as well as the numerous chassis upgrades that have made the truck seem more composed and polished while driving. With a maximum towing capability of 6720 pounds, the Frontier falls short of competitors like the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Jeep Gladiator.

The SV trim level, in our opinion, offers the finest value and standard amenities. The crew cab, which is the bigger of the two available cab sizes, and four-wheel drive are the foundation of our ideal model. Although a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, we’d enhance our truck with the Convenience and Technology packages. They combine to provide heated front seats and a steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automated emergency braking, a trailer hitch, lights in the cargo bed and a spray-in bed liner.

Conclusion

Stylish and modern, livable Quieter interior than the previous version in the Pro-4X off-road trim. Some competitors have more roomy cabins; steering wheel tilts but does not telescope; high-effort steering at parking lot speeds. The Frontier has a certain truck-like charm, but its dated design lacks the polish of competing mid-size trucks, which are more capable and well-rounded.
