2023 Nissan Maxima All Price, Engine, Mileage, Top Speed, 0-60 Mph & Specs

Nissan Maxima Specifications & Features

The exterior of the 2023 Nissan Maxima still draws attention despite not receiving a redesign since the 2016 model year because of its floating roofline and swoopy appearance. Unfortunately, its driving habits aren’t quite as interesting. The Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger feel more agile than the Maxima, but the Volkswagen Arteon is more polished. A 300 horsepower V-6 engine is standard on all Maximas, but it’s paired with a clunky CVT. If you’re searching for a less expensive alternative to anything from, say, Nissan’s Infiniti luxury brand, the Nissan’s cabin is roomy and surprisingly elegant for the price. Otherwise, we’d go towards the Arteon or other more affordable small sports-sedan options from Audi or BMW.

What’s New?

What’s new is that the Maxima’s demise is rapidly approaching. The Maxima’s final model year will be 2023, according to Nissan. Since 1980, the Maxima has served as the Nissan brand’s premier sedan, but more recent iterations have fallen short of the athletic reputation set by earlier versions, which wowed Car and Driver editors in the 1990s. Nissan may not completely discontinue the Maxima moniker as it turns its attention to SUVs and electrified vehicles. The Maxima could be resurrected as a faux-crossover similar to the Toyota Crown or its name could be used for a future electric sedan—a sports-sedan-inspired EV version of the Maxima.

One of the more agile full-size sedans is the Maxima, and its V-6 engine makes a satisfying noise when pushed hard. The Maxima is propelled purposefully by the 3.5-liter V6’s 300 horsepower. However, the CVT takes away from the Maxima’s goal of becoming a sports sedan. In testing, a Maxima Platinum out accelerated rivals like the Volkswagen Arteon and Charger models with a V6 engine, sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. For its size, the Maxima has good handling. The suspension is well-damped and solid, possibly even too stiff for the class. In challenging cornering maneuvers, the Maxima shows no body lean, and in our tests, the Maxima SR handily outperformed its competitors.

The Maxima’s powertrain demonstrates its prowess at fusing performance and efficiency with good fuel-economy ratings of 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, as well as above-average performances in real-world testing. It also makes the ideal long-distance travel partner due to its extensive highway driving range.

All Maxima models come equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which we found to be user-friendly. The infotainment system has redundant buttons in the centre stack for easy access to standard changes like audio level and climate control, but it can also be utilised as a touchscreen. Additionally, the system offers remote access, emergency services, and vehicle monitoring. The speed, boundary, and curfew alarms may be appreciated by parents of teen drivers, and the system immediately informs emergency personnel when the airbags deploy following an accident. In the event of theft, being able to follow the Maxima’s location is useful, as are remote starting and door-lock access.

Given that it includes a power-adjustable steering column, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, a power-operated rear sunshade, leather seats with diamond-quilted inserts, heated rear seats and wood inside trim, we believe the Platinum specification is well worth the price premium. If you have extra cash to burn, consider purchasing the optional Reserve package, which adds a charcoal-colored headliner, a two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel, and special 19-inch wheels to the Maxima.

Conclusion

Interior portrays a premium car admirably; it has a lovely cabin and standard V-6 power. It’s been a while since the fantastic 1990s Maximas, and the CVT hinders refinement. Nissan’s flagship sedan is a fantastic value and straddles the border between mainstream and luxury, but its sport-sedan vibe has long since vanished.
