Many long-standing Porsche customs are broken by the 2023 Porsche Panamera. Instead of the centre or the back, the engine is in the front. Rear-wheel drive is normal, but four-wheel drive is an option. The power source is a standard 325-hp turbocharged V6. The Panamera 4S AWD model activates the 440-hp twin-turbo V-6 for additional power, but the 473-hp twin-turbo V-8 in the Panamera GTS really speeds things up. Even the entry-level Panamera displays sports-car handling, with quick steering and fantastic grip that together offer pure driving enjoyment—something the larger sedans from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz miss.
The Panamera receives no major updates from Porsche for 2023. Although it hasn’t changed much since its refresh in 2021, this year’s greatest improvement is the inclusion of standard adaptive cruise control in all trim levels. The Panamera from Porsche has a driver-focused interior that appears and feels just as opulent as its high price would have you believe. The lengthy list of standard features is commensurate with the class, but like any Porsche, the options list is equally long, alluring, and expensive. The upgrades range from leather-covered temperature control vents to a fire extinguisher to massaging seats. Ventilated seats, soft-close doors, four-zone automatic climate control, and a power-operated rear sunshade are more prevalent choices. The sports chairs with 18-way adjustability are our favorites.
Engine & Performance
The Panamera is exhilarating to drive thanks to its responsive handling and comfortable ride, particularly when fitted with the optional adjustable air suspension. Additionally, it offers the comfort and luxury that one would anticipate from a pricey four-door hatchback. Every Panamera has a boosted motor, but only some are designated as Turbo. A 325-hp turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 is featured in the basic rear-wheel-drive Panamera and AWD Panamera 4. The standard rear-drive variant accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. The 440-hp twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 under the chassis of the noticeably faster 4S model; 60 mph in 3.6 seconds is responsible. You can get a 473-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 by upgrading to the GTS. With a 3.2-second time to 60 mph, it is the non-Turbo line’s finest performer. However, to improve handling, its suspension makes some ride quality compromises.

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid provides a limited all-electric driving range before requiring the use of its gasoline engine, making it the best Panamera for fuel efficiency. The base Panamera and the 4 and 4S versions, which all have the same 18 mpg city and 24 mpg fuel economy ratings, are the most economical non-hybrid vehicles, on the other hand.
Dimensions & Space
A 12.3-inch tablet that occupies the majority of the Panamera’s dash is sizable and attractive, but the infotainment system doesn’t seem as user-friendly as it could be. Although it has useful features like navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto integration, the settings are confusing, and many of its features could be more easily understood. As it stands, using the system while travelling can be distracting.

Porsche offers the Panamera in such a broad range of configurations and price points that the best option for you should depend on your needs and budget. Even the basic model, which produces 325 horsepower and costs under $100,000, isn’t a dud in the bunch. The Executive models, which have a longer wheelbase and significantly more backseat legroom than the standard body, are also among our favorites. For our part, we believe that the Panamera 4S, with its 440-hp twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 and standard all-wheel-drive system, achieves the best balance between performance and value. There are countless choices available from Porsche, but don’t overlook the Sport Chrono package or adaptive air suspension, which enhances the ride and handling of the hatchback. The latter increases the Panamera’s engine, transmission, and chassis performance and adds a Sport Plus option with launch control.
