The 2023 Volvo V60 Cross Country is a unique compact station wagon that can fill the requirement of automobile consumers who want something bigger than a small hatchback but don’t want to store an SUV in the garage. We adore wagons because they are more enjoyable to drive and ride lower to the ground than comparable-sized SUVs. They are also frequently lighter and handle better. If the word “w” conjures up a dowdy image in your head, be assured that the V60 models are anything but plain. An elegant interior with lots of tech features transitions from an upmarket exterior design. Driving aficionados who have a strong preference for wagons may swoon over the newest Polestar Engineered model and its potent 455-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, but for everyone else, the V60 Cross Country’s standard engine should be more than sufficient.

What’s New?
New wheels and updated front and rear bumpers are part of a minor stylistic update for the V60 and V60 Cross Country station wagons for 2023. Also, the center vertically oriented touchscreen and the redesigned interface for the digital gauge display have been incorporated into Volvo’s new Google-based infotainment system. The inside of the Volvo V60, which closely resembles that of the S60 sedan and the XC60 SUV, is excellent. The interior is roomy, the seats are supportive, and the style is unmistakably upscale. Yet, because of Volvo’s simple design, numerous controls are tucked away inside the infotainment system.
Engine & Performance
The Cross Country variant has all-wheel drive and a four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower. The V60 Cross Country tested by us reached 60 mph in 7.1 seconds. The V60 Cross Country feels responsive and agile when navigating corners as long as you’re not pushing it too hard. The upgraded Recharge T8 Polestar has a 455-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines an all-wheel drive system, an electric motor, and a turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder. Compared to the Cross Country model, this arrangement accelerates to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Also, the Recharge T8 Polestar has a manually adjustable suspension, which some car fans may find intriguing. This allows the user to customize the ride quality of the vehicle to their tastes.

Volvo’s Google-based infotainment system is a standard feature of both the V60 and V60 Cross Country models. The new interface performs significantly more quickly and fluidly than the old Sensus Connect system and uses the same 9.0-inch touchscreen with a vertical orientation. Although brand-new, the interface has some flaws, including too-small on-screen icons for usage while driving. Bluetooth connectivity, an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot powered by a 4G LTE data connection, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are all included as standard features.

We like the more aggressive Turbo T8 Polestar, which forgoes the raised suspension and SUV-style elements of the Cross Country in favor of a more performance-focused appearance. The ride is a little harsh, but we’re ready to accept that trade-off for the increased power and electric-only driving mode of the T8 powertrain. We won’t hold it against you if you decide the Polestar’s performance isn’t for you and go with the Cross Country. In all honesty, they’re both wise decisions.
