Aston Martin DB12 vs Lamborghini Huracan Comparison

2024 Aston Martin DB12 vS Lamborghini Huracan: Which one Is better?

The 2024 Aston Martin DB12 lineup, unveiled in Gaydon, marks the brand’s significant anniversaries and boasts a more powerful engine, fresh designs, and improved suspension. While it lacks a V12 engine, the DB12’s Mercedes-AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 surpasses the potency of the previous DB11 V12. In contrast, the Lamborghini Huracán, despite its age, still impresses with its V-10 engine, precise handling, and commanding presence. Competing against Ferrari, McLaren, and Aston Martin, the Huracán stands out as the sole car with a naturally-aspirated V-10, delivering a distinct auditory experience. Lamborghini continues to enhance the Huracán with desirable variants, including the all-new Tecnica model for 2023. Like an aging rock star, the Huracán fills stadiums with its enduring allure and exhilaration.

Engine & Performance

Welcoming the most recent DB model also means bidding farewell to the previous 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12. At least until Aston introduces a prospective AMR performance model, the only available engine is a twin-turbo V-8 with the same previous displacement of 4.0 liters. However, Aston has significantly increased the amount of power available, mostly by enlarging the turbos, altering the compression ratios, and revamping the cooling system. Peak power for the new and enhanced V-8 is 671 hp at 6000 rpm and peak torque is 590 pound-feet between 2750 and 6000 rpm. These numbers are not only much greater than the previous V-8’s 528 horses and 513 pound-feet but also higher than the previous V-12’s 630 horses and 516 pound-feet.

Price & Mileage

The 2024 Aston Martin DB12 is set to be released in the United States in the third quarter of this year. While specific pricing details have not been disclosed, the coupe variant is estimated to start at $245,000, marking an increase of approximately $37,000 compared to the V-8 coupe. Additionally, there are expectations that the convertible version, known as the DB12 Volante, will be unveiled with a starting price of around $260,000. As of now, the EPA has not provided any ratings for the DB12, but we will promptly update this information once it becomes available.

Acceleration & Features

The Aston Martin DB12 boasts a top speed of 202 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Its suspension features adjustable dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars, and 21-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tires. The car incorporates an electronic rear differential for quick traction control. Inside, the driver-centric design includes a large center console and luxurious Alcantara leather. Aston Martin has developed a new infotainment system with internet-connected navigation, 3D mapping, mobile app integration, and over-the-air updates. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The updated system eliminates most Mercedes switchgear, showcasing Aston Martin’s technology.

Engine & Performance

The Huracán houses a dry-sumped 5.2-liter V-10 engine behind its cabin, producing a devilish sound as it revs up to 8500 rpm. Except for the Sterrato model, which has a 601-hp variant, all other Huracán V-10s generate 631 horsepower. Power is transmitted through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, capable of executing rapid shifts either automatically or at the driver’s command using paddle shifters. Rear-wheel steering now comes standard across all Huracán models, enhancing agility, while the adaptive LDVI system adjusts dynamically to driver inputs. Although the Tecnica model impressed me with its responsive chassis and comfortable ride, its steering feedback at normal road speeds lacked vividness.

Pricing & Mileage

Based on our firsthand experience with the Italian supercar, we would highly recommend opting for the rear-wheel drive Huracán Tecnica. It could be considered a slightly toned-down version of the STO, prioritizing a more comfortable and road-friendly demeanor while remaining more affordable. Notably, the Tecnica, alongside the STO, is one of the few Huracán models available in rear-wheel drive, as the Evo and Evo Spyder are now exclusively all-wheel drive for the 2023 model year. The price range for the base EVO starts at $212,090 and goes up to $338,690 for the STO. While the EPA has not released fuel economy ratings for the 2023 Tecnica and STO yet, the EVO models maintain the same 15 mpg combined rating as last year’s cars, suggesting that the Tecnica and STO will likely have similar fuel efficiency estimates.

Acceleration & Features

The Evo coupe, equipped with all-wheel drive, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. And completes the quarter-mile in 10.4 seconds at a speed of 135 mph. While infotainment features may not be the most captivating aspect of a high-end supercar. Lamborghini still includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen in the Huracán. This interface allows control over functions like the audio system, climate settings, and various media content. Additionally, the Huracán offers Apple CarPlay compatibility and integrates Amazon Alexa. Providing voice-controlled technology that aims to reduce distractions while driving.
