BMW 5-Series Specifications & Features

The 2024 BMW 5-Series has been the company’s middle-child sedan since 1975. offering the ideal size for purchasers whose parking area won’t accommodate a 7-series and whose 3-series feels a little too small. The next model of the 5-series sticks to its Goldilocks narrative and provides a roomy cabin stocked with comforts. BMW’s iDrive 8.5 interfaces are featured on the new digital dashboard for the 5-series, and the manufacturer also offers a hands-free driver-assistance system. This complete redesign should keep the current 5-series competitive against rivals like the Audi A6, the Genesis G80, and the Mercedes-Benz E-class—the latter of which has also undergone a complete redesign—even though it only underwent its most recent revision a few years ago.

What’s New?

The performance-focused M5 sports sedan, an all-electric 5-series version, and the next-generation 5-series sedan are all in the works at BMW. Before the end of 2023, we anticipate the new four-door to arrive on dealer lots. The 5-series’ interior has gotten a little bigger, so adult passengers should have plenty of room to stretch out in the front and back seats, and the cabin looks suitably opulent. Although genuine leather upholstery is still an option, BMW has this time around added a vegan-friendly option called Veganza. All models include an automatic temperature control system with neatly concealed vents that are integrated into the dashboard design.

For 2024, there will only be two 5-series models available: the 530i and 540i. The 530i has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 255-hp turbocharger and maybe had rear- or all-wheel drive. The 375 horsepower inline-six and all-wheel drive are standard on the 540i. An additional 48-volt hybrid system is used with both. According to BMW, the 540i should have enough power to reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. For the 2025 model year, a plug-in hybrid powertrain is predicted to be available. When we have an opportunity, we’ll test drive the new 5-series and update this article with our findings. Front seats with additional power adjustments, a massaging function, and ventilation and heating are available as part of the Luxury Seating package.

BMW 5-Series Mileage

The EPA hasn’t yet provided fuel economy estimates for the 2024 5-series, but they shouldn’t deviate significantly from the figures for the present model.

Every 5-series variant includes a sizable curved digital panel with a 14.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and a 12.3-inch reconfigurable gauge display. The system, which is also present in other BMW cars including the 7-series sedan and the iX electric SUV, has impressed us with its ease of use. All variants come equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Harman/Kardon audio system, and a video game console BMW calls AirConsole that can only be used while the car is parked. A head-up display is an option.

Even though the 5-series has undergone a makeover for 2024, it is still available in the same trim levels and with the same drivetrains, starting with the entry-level 530i model and ending with the more potent 540i xDrive trim. Although a plug-in hybrid is rumored to be joining the lineup in the future, the inline-six 540i was our top choice for the previous generation and is likely to remain so.
