2024 Chevy Silverado EV 4WT VS Rivian R1T Comparison

2024 Chevy Silverado EV 4WT VS Rivian R1T: Which is better?

General Motors has launched the GMC Hummer EV SUV, which has inspired the upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV. The Silverado EV’s fleet-designed version gives us a preview of what to expect from the customer models later this year. Unlike traditional Silverados, the Silverado EV has a new design reminiscent of the revived Chevy Avalanche. The Rivian R1T, produced by Rivian, is our favorite electric pickup truck due to its smart design and impressive performance. It is slightly larger than a Ford Ranger and can be propelled by either two or four electric motors. Its smaller size makes it more maneuverable in tight spaces compared to larger vehicles like the Ford F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV SUV. The R1T’s adjustable air suspension, all-terrain tires, and optional carbon-fiber underbody cover contribute to its capabilities both on and off-road. However, all these features come at a price.

Chevy Silverado EV 4WT

Battery, Power & Performance

The Silverado EV 4WT provides a straightforward option for those looking for a practical alternative to the more premium Silverado EV RST First Edition, which will be available to the public in the upcoming autumn. The RST First Edition boasts a powerful dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain, generating an impressive 754 horsepower and at least 785 pound-feet of torque. It also includes standard air springs, rear-wheel steering, and a removable mid-gate bed extender located behind the passenger compartment. Despite weighing around 8500 pounds, the Silverado EV 4WT offers a respectable range and an estimated 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds.

Price & Features

Enter the 4WT and you’ll find yourself surrounded by a monotonous expanse of dark, textured plastic that might not align with your expectations given its starting price of $79,800. However, practicality and maintenance convenience take precedence in this work truck, as glamour is not its primary concern. The standard features include an easily readable 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.0-inch center touchscreen. It’s worth noting that the touchscreen incorporates both headlight controls and settings for the truck’s regenerative braking, which offer a range of options from minimal to full one-pedal operation, although this arrangement can be somewhat frustrating.

Battery, Power & Performance

The 2023 R1T has standard AWD, however, it is available in both Dual-Motor and Quad-Motor variants. The Dual-Motor variant has just two motors and produces 600 horsepower. The R1T has up to 835 horsepower when equipped with the optional Quad-Motor system. This particular model was the fastest pickup truck, rocketing to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. The basic air suspension can change the ground clearance from eight to fourteen inches. The Quad-Motor configuration enables the R1T to do a “Tank Turn”. As described by Rivian, in which the electric motors rotate the left wheels anticlockwise to the right wheels. Spinning the truck on its axis.

Price & Features

We’d choose the Adventure since it includes several enticing extras, such as a Meridian stereo system, heated and ventilated front seats, nicer upholstery, and wood interior trim. To increase our driving range, we would upgrade to the Big battery pack for an additional $6000. The Quad-Motor all-wheel-drive powertrain is $8000 more expensive, but we believe the improved performance justifies the extra expense. We recommend skipping the largest battery pack, called Max, as it boosts range beyond the Large pack by 27% but costs a whopping $16,000 unless you’re intending on pulling heavy goods. The R1T starts at $74,800.
