Ford Mustang EcoBoost Specifications & Features

Not everyone has the means to check off all the boxes. But some simply crave a taste of their cherished story. Enter the new Mustangs, where the EcoBoost comes into play. The foundational model and the star of the fleet, housing a four-cylinder engine that can be found at Hertz locations across the nation. Amidst Ford’s array of crossovers and trucks, the Mustang stands as the sole true car, refusing to conform. As the S550 generation bids farewell after it runs from 2015 to 2023, the S650 takes its place, donning a subtle transformation. Its appearance has evolved with a more elegant interior, featuring sizable dash screens that could almost double as dining surfaces. The 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost, an iconic pony car exudes a sleek and pristine look. Except for its front end, which now sports a bold grille that resembles the grin of an enthusiastic fish.

Ford Mustang EcoBoost Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration

The base model of the car, be it a coupe or a convertible, comes equipped with Dearborn’s EcoBoost turbo-four engine—2.3 liters. Boasting a powerful 315 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm. In the past, the outgoing EcoBoost Mustang offered 310 horsepower, with an optional hot-rod pack elevating it to 330. But unfortunately, that choice is no longer available, which is quite disappointing. Another drawback is that the six-speed manual transmission for the EcoBoost has been discontinued. Leaving only a 10-speed automatic as the sole option. Not exactly thrilling news for the manual enthusiasts.

While some may argue that a Mustang deserves a roaring V-8 engine, the inline-four does have its merits. Particularly when it comes to delivering decent and readily available torque, especially in the midrange. However, one glaring issue with the 10-speed automatic is its tendency to upshift too quickly. Causing the tach needle to drop and the engine to produce a rather unpleasant moaning and droning sound. Although there’s a Low mode, the transmission lacks the convenience of manual shifting unless you opt for the additional cost of the shift paddles. Overall, the current configuration might leave Mustang enthusiasts yearning for a bit more excitement and control over their driving experience.

Rejoice in the marvel of the new engine, carefully crafted to deliver enhanced efficiency. With a remarkable reduction in friction and mass. Behold the coupe’s EPA fuel-economy ratings as they soar, now attaining an outstanding 26 mpg combined, 22 mpg in the city, and an impressive 33 mpg on the highway. While we eagerly await the official EPA figures for the 2024 EcoBoost convertible. Let’s remember that last year’s numbers humbly trailed the coupe’s by a mere 2 mpg, a small price to pay for such engineering excellence.

Regarding that dash: Several glass cockpits seem to be overly ambitious in their attempt to incorporate screens, and this one is certainly no exception. The 12.4-inch display positioned above the steering column and the 13.2-inch touchscreen on the center console stand out conspicuously. Packed with pixels. While the software interface maintains a clean and mostly user-friendly design, the lack of physical buttons in the interior may be appreciated by some. However, it’s important to note that it quickly becomes plagued with unsightly finger smudges and dust, resulting in an unattractive appearance that could be likened to a cringey toupee in the lightly retro cockpit of the Mustang.
