Opting for the sporty SE sedan, with its tighter suspension for a more enjoyable drive, is our pick over the LE and XLE grades. The sedan lineup includes a fuel-efficient four-cylinder and an impressively economical hybrid model. The EPA projects the front-drive hybrid to achieve 50 mpg city and 43 mpg highway, while the all-wheel drive version hits 47 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. In comparison, the nonhybrid 169-hp 2.0-liter engine is estimated to reach up to 41 mpg highway. For those eyeing the hatchback, it’s rated at a respectable 32 mpg city and 42 mpg highway.

The hybrid model with all-wheel drive took a relaxed 9.0 seconds to reach 60 mph in our test, and the previous hatchback model did it in a slightly quicker 8.3 seconds. Whether it’s the sedan or hatchback, the Corolla delivers a comfortable ride that effectively absorbs most road imperfections. All Corolla variants feature a touchscreen infotainment system with seamless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, complemented by an optional subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot.
