Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class Specifications & Features

The two compact crossovers from Mercedes-Benz reflect a constant decision in life: beauty or utility? It depends on the individual whether the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class is smarter or dorkier because it is a boxier variant of the GLA-Class. The same 221-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and front-wheel drive are used in both Benzes. With the help of an optional ambient lighting package with lighted vents, the cabin may be transformed from business into Club RGB. AWD is also an option, as are many other features. The GLB-class features superb driving dynamics that make it comfortable and enjoyable to operate despite its lack of horsepower, which is saved instead for the AMG GLB35. The GLB has more cargo space than the sportier GLA-class because of its squarer back end, and a third row that is optional but extremely cramped can even be chosen.

What’s New?

For 2024, Mercedes has renovated the inside of the GLB-class and altered the bumpers, headlights, and taillights. With Mercedes’ most recent software, the previously optional 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is now standard. Additionally, Mercedes has made the heated steering wheel a standard feature of the AMG Line cabin. The GLB’s new 48-volt hybrid-assist electrical system, which could increase the GLB’s EPA estimations, is concealed beneath all the new metal and leather.

The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the GLB produces 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque from behind the three-pointed star on the grille. For 2024, a 48-volt hybrid system will be introduced, although overall output won’t change. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and either front- or all-wheel drive are mated to the engine. Although we haven’t tested the GLB’s new 48-volt system, the previous all-wheel-drive GLB achieved a quick sprint to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds without it. The GLB250 isn’t particularly sporty in our opinion, but for an SUV of this size, its ride and handling are satisfactory and capable.

Although the EPA hasn’t yet provided estimates for the 2024 GLB-Class, we anticipate a slight improvement over last year’s predictions due to a new 48-volt electrical system. The EPA assessed the fuel economy of the front-wheel-drive GLB in 2023 to be 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined; the all-wheel-drive version is essentially the same, except highway economy is estimated to be 30 mpg. These figures were comparable to, but marginally lower than, the BMW X1’s EPA-estimated mileage.

Dimensions & Space

The GLB-Class makes up for part of the lack of substantial basic interior amenities, however, with its entertainment and technological options. Every GLB250 comes with two 12.3-inch monitors that are used to provide entertainment and driving information. There are numerous methods to connect your phone to the GLB250, including Bluetooth, four USB-C connections, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

For the GLB-Class, there is only one trim level available, but for a few thousand dollars more, the 4Matic model adds all-wheel drive. The optional Parking package for the 360-degree camera would then be added after that. In addition, we would spend the extra money on the Burmester optional surround sound system, which now features Dolby Atmos audio.
