Porsche 911 S/T Specifications & Features
Renowned for its decades of sports car expertise, Porsche presents the 2024 Porsche 911 S/T, an unrivaled symbol of uncompromised performance and astounding speed. This track-day champion proudly features a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that roars to an impressive 9000 rpm redline. In its S/T form, this flat-six powerhouse produces 518 horsepower, emitting a thrilling howl. Next to a standard 911, the S/T exudes the unmistakable 911 aura with a subtle GT3 influence. Importantly, note that the new S/T isn’t just a race or track car; it’s a road-centric 911 infused with components borrowed from the GT3 and GT3 RS models. Essentially, the S/T eagerly assumes the mantle as the successor to the lightweight, manual-only 911 R, leaving a lasting impression on the previous generation of 911 enthusiasts.
What’s New?
Introducing the latest addition to the 2024 GT3 lineup – the S/T model, the new flagship variant. This exclusive edition combines the potent 518-hp engine found in the GT3 RS with the understated aesthetics of the GT3 Touring, boasting a manual transmission for true driving enthusiasts. If you’re considering one, act swiftly, for only 1963 units of this model will roll off the production line. In other updates, the 911 GT3 now embraces wireless Android Auto connectivity, while the infotainment system comes standard with Spotify integration, enhancing the overall driving experience.
Porsche 911 S/T Engine, Power & Performance
The GT3 RS exclusively offers a short-throw six-speed manual transmission, with its rear wheels powered by the unmodified 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine. This powerplant maintains its output at 518 horsepower, peaking at 8500 rpm. To enhance throttle response, the clutch and flywheel weight have been halved, shedding 23 pounds. However, this weight reduction does introduce some noticeable rattling from the clutch and engine at idle to around 2900 rpm. While the GT3 can reach 80 mph in second gear, the S/T variant tops out at 72 mph. Porsche asserts a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds for the S/T, surpassing the company’s claim for the 502-hp manual GT3 by two-tenths of a second. Transitioning into a discussion of the Porsche S/T’s weight reduction measures, we begin with the windshield, now thinner and contributing to a lighter overall build.
Standard features include magnesium wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes. Furthermore, a 6.6-pound lighter battery is incorporated, and a 4.4-pound weight reduction is achieved through changes to the carpets. Notably, the carbon-fiber rear anti-roll bar, sourced from the GT3 RS’s Weissach package, shaves off an additional 4.4 pounds. To achieve a substantial total weight reduction of 14.3 pounds and streamline the chassis, the rear-wheel-steering system is eliminated. Porsche claims that the S/T is now 84 pounds lighter than the lightest 911 GT3 Touring. During spirited cornering, the vehicle’s dynamics provide feedback through tugs and vibrations. Revealing the evolving road grip and stress on the Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tires. To enhance stability, the S/T features a subtle Gurney flap on the retractable spoiler’s edge, allowing it to rise at 74 mph. A notable improvement from the previous 56 mph threshold, and at a more moderate angle.
