The 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLA-Class is among the smallest models in the range, but it’s no less deserving of its spot in the lineup. Mercedes’ AMG tuning division is famed for its insanely powerful sports sedans. The Mercedes-AMG makeover begins with an engine swap in the Benz-branded CLA-class, with CLA35 cars receiving a turbocharged four-cylinder with 302 horsepower on tap. With a variant of the same boosted engine that has been turned up to 416 horsepower, the more expensive CLA45 S model cranks up the heat even further. There are styling cues everywhere to remind you that the AMG cost more, and the CLA’s coupe-like roofline is ideally suited to the car’s sporting purpose. This little luxury car has a lot of attitude, and it gets that attitude from the increasingly expensive AMG cars.
What’s New?
The AMG CLA-class, like its normal Mercedes sibling, gets a styling upgrade for 2024 that includes a new grille, headlights, taillamps, and wheels. The CLA35 replaces its seven-speed automatic gearbox with an eight-speed and receives a 48-volt electrical system featured in other Mercedes models, such as the C-class sedan. The CLA45 model at the top of the lineup receives the S designation and has a 416-horsepower increase. The dual-screen infotainment system’s software has been updated, and it now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. New upholstery options and steering wheel designs have also been included.
Mercedes-AMG CLA-Class Engine, Power, Acceleration & Performance
Both versions have the newest 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine from the manufacturer, but the CLA35 produces 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque while the CLA45 S produces a thrilling 416 horsepower and 369 pound-feet. Both vehicles include a standard 8-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic+ all-wheel drive, which may direct all of the energy to the rear wheels. Even a Drift drive mode with tail-sliding capabilities is available for the CLA45 S. Adjustable ride quality is provided via a set of available adaptive dampers. In testing, the CLA35, which has 302 horsepower, managed a speedy 4.4-second zero-to-60-mph time, while the CLA45, which had 382 horsepower at the time, accelerated to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. The CLA45 S should be slightly faster now that it has 34 extra horsepower.

The EPA hasn’t yet commented on the fuel efficiency ratings for the 2024 CLA35 and CLA45 S, but we don’t anticipate many changes from the 2023 models. The CLA35 was given a 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway rating for 2023. Ratings for the more potent CLA45 were 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.

The CLA45 S is the most potent sibling of the CLA family, but due to its high base price, it must compete with larger, more opulent sports sedans. As a result, we recommend sticking with the CLA35 and being cautious when adding options.

Conclusion
The CLA35 and CLA45 S are little hot rods that deliver big on AMG’s high-performance concept despite having four-cylinder engines. Little trunk, cramped rear seat and pricey for its class. Power to please, fun-loving handling, and hot styling.
