Prodrive P25 Specifications & Features

Why not venture into the realm of high-end resto-mods with something unexpected, like a Subaru Impreza? Sure, spending over half a million dollars on a non-works rally car might sound unconventional, but the Impreza’s rich motorsports history and devoted following can evoke a powerful emotional connection. Prodrive, the British motorsports engineering company, has already sold all 25 units of its P25, a street-legal first-generation Impreza that they claim to be the ultimate version. Over the past year, the Prodrive P25 project has seen significant changes, including new bumpers, lights, a redesigned rear wing, and enhancements in power. It’s an exciting development that showcases how a seemingly ordinary car can be transformed into something extraordinary.

What’s New?

Upon closer inspection, the P25 demonstrator exudes an impeccable appearance. However, it distinguishes itself from typical “continuation” models by retaining its original Japanese-market two-door Impreza WRX STI foundation. Meticulously disassembled, the vehicle underwent a comprehensive restoration and received noteworthy enhancements, incorporating carbon fiber for the roof, trunk lid, hood, fenders, and elevated rear wing. According to Prodrive’s assertion, the P25 boasts a mere 2646 pounds curb weight, a figure that may raise eyebrows in contemporary times where the 2023 BMW M2 weighs around 3800 pounds. Nonetheless, it serves as a poignant reminder of the past era when all-wheel-drive performance cars showcased remarkable lightness.

Prodrive P25 Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration

Prodrive has impressively surpassed its initial promise for the P25’s performance. Originally set to deliver 400 horsepower, the car now boasts a remarkable 450 horsepower, along with an even greater torque of over 442 pound-feet. The engine has undergone extensive modifications, featuring forged pistons, reinforced connecting rods, ported cylinder heads, and a new Garrett turbo. Additionally, the car offers an exciting popping-and-banging anti-lag mode, ensuring the turbo stays engaged during the track-only Sport Plus mode. The distinct Akrapovič exhaust system further enhances the engine’s performance. The P25 comes with a six-speed sequential gearbox and an active electronically controlled center differential. Allowing torque distribution to be adjusted between the axles. The result is a thrilling and powerful driving experience.

The engine hums to life with a purposeful, mechanical tone. Although the P25 emits a noticeable sound, it maintains a more controlled and refined presence compared to a true WRC challenger. At lower revs, the boost pressure takes a moment to build, but once it kicks in. The engine delivers a potent surge of power that’s felt deep within. While it may not rev as eagerly as its predecessor. Which reached an impressive 7900 rpm, the P25 compensates with substantial midrange torque. On the tight circuit, this characteristic proves advantageous, especially when paired with the lightning-fast gearbox. In terms of handling, the P25 strikes a balance between supple springs and firm dampers. It skillfully utilizes wheel travel to navigate dips and compressions while the Bilstein dampers prevent any undesirable secondary movement.

Prodrive P25 Price

The P25 made a memorable debut at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, where Prodrive announced its intention to produce a limited run of 25 units. Surprisingly, each car came with a hefty price tag of £460,000 before taxes and additional fees (£552,000 in the UK). Astonishingly, all 25 cars were quickly sold out within just three days. With one fortunate individual even acquiring two of them. Talk about remarkable demand!
