Volvo EX30 VS Volvo XC40 Recharge Comparison Difference

Volvo EX30 VS Volvo XC40 Recharge: What to choose?

Volvo is preparing to introduce two new electric vehicles in 2024. One of them is the Volvo EX30, which stands out as their smallest and most affordable SUV to date. Leaked images showcase its contemporary design, characterized by smooth curves and the distinctive Thor’s Hammer LED Headlights inspired by Nordic aesthetics. Another interesting feature is the diagonal Volvo logo, adding a unique touch. The EX30 employs a technique known as “paint-the-roof black,” enhancing its sleek appearance and giving it a charming and adorable appeal. On the other hand, the XC40 Recharge represents Volvo’s modern take on the classic, square-shaped wagons with utilitarian purposes. This vehicle reinterprets those brick-like long roofs in a truly contemporary manner. Volvo has integrated various features within the cabin to enhance the XC40 Recharge’s utilitarian nature, including clever storage solutions and a spacious cargo area suitable for transporting large items.

Battery & Charging Options

Volvo’s lineup includes an affordable model with a 59 kWh LFP battery and a premium version featuring a larger 69 kWh battery. Surprisingly, the most environmentally friendly Volvo is also the quickest. Moreover, all these vehicles offer rapid charging, allowing you to charge from 10% to 80% in less than thirty minutes, thanks to charging speeds between 134 and 153 kW.

Price & Mileage

Volvo plans to introduce three trim levels for the EX30, following their usual practice. These options, known as Core, Plus, and Ultimate, are projected to be priced between $50,000 and $60,000, catering to both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive setups. To meet the demands of long-distance driving, the mid and top-tier models will come with a powerful 64kWh lithium-ion battery, substantially increasing the range from 213 miles to nearly 300 miles.

Acceleration & Features

Surprisingly, Volvo’s most eco-friendly model also happens to be its most powerful. Introducing the all-new high-performance flagship from Volvo, a true speed demon. The top-of-the-line Twin Motor Performance edition boasts an impressive 428 horsepower and can go from 0 to 60mph in a mere 3.4 seconds. Even the base rear-drive version is no slouch, with 272 horsepower that rivals the acceleration of a Honda Civic Type R, achieving 60mph in under 5.5 seconds. Safety is a top priority in the EX30, featuring Volvo’s cutting-edge Safe Space Technology. One notable safety feature is the Door Opening Alert, which alerts you if there are any approaching vehicles when opening the car’s door. To ensure driver attentiveness, the Advanced Driver Alert System utilizes motion sensors and eye-monitoring technology as standard.

Battery & Charging Options

The Single Motor variants of the XC40 Recharge are equipped with a 79.0-kWh battery pack. Providing an estimated driving range of up to 293 miles on a single charge, according to Volvo. On the other hand, the Twin Motor all-wheel drive model comes with a standard 75.0-kWh battery pack, offering an estimated range of up to 254 miles. This range of estimates positions the XC40 Recharge in direct competition with the Audi e-tron and the Jaguar I-Pace. However, it falls short when compared to the Model Y from Tesla, which boasts a range of over 300 miles per charge. Nonetheless, the XC40 Recharge supports convenient charging options, including DC fast-charging terminals and at-home chargers using a 240-volt outlet.

Price & Mileage

The XC40 Recharge comes in three trims, but we recommend the fully equipped Ultimate. It offers unique features like 20-inch wheels, automatic high-beam headlamps, a Harman/Kardon stereo system, adaptive cruise control, and semi-autonomous driving. Prices start at around $50,000 for the Single Motor Core and go up to approximately $61,000 for the Twin Motor Ultimate. While the official range for the 2024 XC40 Recharge is not yet available, we expect it to be slightly better than the previous model.

Acceleration & Features

The XC40 Recharge lineup offers different powertrain options to cater to various preferences. The entry-level models feature a single electric motor positioned at the rear, generating a robust 248 horsepower. For those seeking even more power and all-wheel drive capability, the Twin Motor models incorporate two electric motors, one at each axle. This configuration delivers an impressive 402 horsepower, allowing the XC40 Recharge to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a swift 4.3 seconds, as demonstrated on a test track. Volvo has equipped all XC40 Recharge models with their latest infotainment software, which was developed in collaboration with Google’s Android Automotive. This ensures a cutting-edge and intuitive user experience, seamlessly integrating the functionalities of both Volvo and Google technologies.
