2024 Toyota Hilux MHEV Breaks Cover, Hints At New Fortuner Engine

Toyota has introduced a mild-hybrid version of the Hilux in the European market just a few months after it began testing prototypes in Africa.

The 2.8-litre diesel engine on the Hilux gets a 48V mild-hybrid setup replete with an electric motor generator and a few other components.

Sources tell us that the Hilux MHEV will only be available on the top variants, with lower trims getting it a little later.

Toyota says that the components for the mild-hybrid setup have been strategically placed, which allows for a water wading depth of 700mm.

oyota had earlier confirmed that the Fortuner is one of the next models from the brand to feature mild-hybrid tech.

Toyota locally assembles the Fortuner and Hilux in India, and both models come with the same 2.8-litre diesel engine that has received the MHEV tech overseas.

Although Toyota is expected to introduce this tech in India sometime next year, it remains to be seen which among these two will get it first.
