Hybrid vehicles are the ones that use both the internal combustion engine and electric motors to run. These vehicles power the battery while running on the engine power and use the stored electric power whenever necessary. So these vehicles are made to fill the gap between the internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles. 1. Fisker Karma
This sports vehicle produced by Fisker Automotive is a massive disaster. The vehicle came with a 2.0 L turbocharged flat 4-cylinder engine and dual electric motor setup each making a 161-hp. Though this vehicle became recognized by celebrities buying them, the manufacturer had to bankrupt leaving a debt of $192 million.
2. Fiat 500 Hybrid
This vehicle has a 1.0-liter petrol engine and a single electric motor. This is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The vehicle produces a power output of 69hp and 92Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 13.8 seconds and has a top speed of 104mph.
3. BMW i8
This BMW has a 1.5L twin-turbo inline-3 cylinder engine conjoined with an eDrive Electric Motor these provide a combined power output of 357 hp. This vehicle has a price of $148,495 and can reach a top speed of 155 mph. It takes a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.2 sec.
4. Mini Countryman S E ALL4 PHEV
The vehicle has a 1.5 Litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor and is capable of making a power output of 189 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. This vehicle can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 135 mph.
5. Acura NSX
This hybrid electric vehicle is equipped with a 3.5 L twin-turbocharged V6 engine and a 3 electric motor setup. That produces a combined output of 573 hp. Mated with the 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission it can achieve a top speed of 190 mph and has a price of $156,000.
6. Suzuki Twin Hybrid
This Kei car was sold in Japan from 2003 to 2005. The vehicle was available in two different options one with a petrol engine while the other is a hybrid. The vehicle uses a small three-cylinder engine that produces a power output of 44 hp.
7. Lexus LC500h
This vehicle is equipped with a 3.4-liter V6 engine, two electric motors, and one lithium-ion battery pack. The vehicle is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds. The engine actually produces 354 hp which is less than the IC engine power but the hybrid vehicle has a higher price than this.
8. Chevrolet Volt
This is a plug-in hybrid electric car that equips a 1.5-liter engine and a 17 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The engine produces a power output of 101 horsepower and the vehicle has an electric driving range of 53 miles. The power transferred to all the wheels with two electric motors in the front and rear.
9. Towns Microdot
Designed by William Towns this is a small town car. This vehicle made its debut at the 1976 London Motor Show. It comes with a 400cc petrol engine powering a 3.5kW generator and the engineers expected to get a rating of 100 mpg. This vehicle designed to fit three passengers and has no space for luggage.
10. Mercedes-Benz C350e
This Mercedes has a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes 208 horsepower and a single 60-kilowatt electric motor powered by a 6.4kWh lithium-ion battery. These provide a combined power output of 275 hp. It equips a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that powers the rear wheels. And the vehicle can accelerate from 0-60mph in 6 seconds.
