2023 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe is a four-door sports sedan in two-door drag. The 4-series Gran Coupe takes a grand leap forward from the standard BMW design language like the 3 Series or the 5 Series cars. It shares the chassis and the interior from the 3 Series but has new front and rear end looks. And yes while we’re talking about the looks, let’s address the elephant in the room first, the new grille which has created a whole lot of controversy since the images went public. Headroom in the back seat isn’t as generous as in the more upright 3-series sedans, but the 4-series’ fastback design cleverly hides a large liftback-style rear door. The Audi A5 Sportback and the Kia Stinger also use this same trick, but the BMW’s road manners are more refined than those two rivals.

What’s New?
BMW now adds all-wheel drive as an option on the base 430i Gran Coupe this year. However, the more powerful M440i, available only with all-wheel drive last year, now can be equipped with rear-wheel drive. Nothing else has changed much, although the optional Shadowline package now adds M Sport Brakes with painted calipers, and the Premium package now no longer includes gesture controls for the infotainment system. All models come with ambient interior lighting as standard and the premium package will now include power lumbar support and tech features like heads-up display and gesture controls. And the 4 Series now comes with two new color options with standard faux leather upholstery.
Engine & Performance
Similar to the 3 Series, the 4 Series comes with the same engine options. A 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 255 hp and a 3.0L turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine pumps out 382 hp with 364 lb-ft of torque, combined with a 48 Volt hybrid system. Both of them are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard and rear or all-wheel drive system. Thanks to its aggressive steering and tuned suspension the new Gran Coupe delivers a great performance with a smooth and joyful riding experience with supreme refinement. The much lower center of gravity the car handles curves like a champ. It can blast off to 60 mph from 0 in just 3.9 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 128 mph. The suspension can feel a bit stiff over big potholes, but the tradeoff is athletic handling that provides grin-producing entertainment on a twisty road.
