The new RS’s front mirrors the GT4 RS, adjusting for rear wing absence. A reshaped ducktail spoiler enhances rear downforce. Opting for the Weissach package further reduces weight, with carbon-fiber replacements and a titanium exhaust. The removable roof, akin to a poncho, maintains aerodynamics and can be assembled solo in minutes. While resembling compression shorts, it eliminates buffeting and is 17 pounds lighter than the standard Spyder’s roof.
Porsche 718 Spyder RS Engine and Performance
The Spyder RS, confirmed as the GT4 RS counterpart, retains powertrain parity. Its 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine produces 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, which is 79 horsepower more than the 718 Spyder. Porsche only provides the seven-speed PDK automatic gearbox, which shortens ratios for faster acceleration. With a claimed 3.2-second time to 60 mph, it might approach the GT4 RS’s 2.8-second time.
Pricing
Arriving spring 2024, the Porsche Spyder RS starts at $162,150, a $20,000 premium over the Cayman GT4 RS. Porsche’s allure often convinces customers to embrace paying more for less, a testament to the brand’s prestige and desirability. The car’s public premiere is set for June, followed by an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
