They have tried many cars from many segments and there have been many cars over the years that police loved using for their work. Here are the 8 classical cars that American police love using.
1. Dodge Diplomat Police Package
These cars were used from 1984 to 1989. The engine is a 5.2-liter V8 that is capable of generating a power output of 120 hp with a two-barrel carb and 155 hp with a four-barrel carb. This vehicle can accelerate from 0-60mph in 13.1 seconds with a two-barrel carb. Dodge stopped making these vehicles in 1988 which made cops go for other vehicles.
2. AMC Matador PPV
Police used these cars from 1972 to 1974. And only two cars used in the complete two years. This vehicle has a 6.6 L 401 cubic-inch V8. That is capable of generating a power output of 330hp at 5000rpm and a torque of 583 Nm at 3400 rpm. This is a rear-wheel drive vehicle that can reach a top speed of 125mph and can accelerate from 0-60mph in just under 7 seconds.

This is the fourth generation of the vehicle which came in 1991. The vehicle had a 5.0 V8 engine and a 5.7 V8 engine. These engines produced a power of 205 hp and a torque of 407 Nm. This vehicle could reach a top speed of 149mph.
4. Ford Fairlane Police Package
These cars were used by the police in the 1950s and 1960s. This vehicle has a powerful V8 engine. These vehicles produced 335hp at 4800rpm and a torque of 427 lb-ft at 3200 rpm. These vehicles used a 3-speed manual or an optional 4-speed manual transmission.
5. Dodge Charger Pursuit
Police have been using this vehicle for the last two decades. This vehicle has a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine. That is capable of generating a maximum power output of 340-375 horsepower over the last few generations of the vehicle. This has a top speed of 155mph and can accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.5sec.

This police car was based on the Ford Mustang. It was made and used from 1982 to 1993. These vehicles were sold as a 2-door coupe or 2-door hatchback. The engine used is a 5.0L V8 along with a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. These lightest cars made especially for cops to use the heavy engines to run at high speeds.
7. Dodge Polara Pursuit
These were the vehicles used in the 1960s. The vehicle has a 375hp V8 engine equipped to it with a 4-Barrel Carburetor. This vehicle can accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds. These vehicles can reach a top speed of 149.6mph. This vehicle could cover a 1/4-Mile in 14.3 Seconds. These, discontinued as the compression ratio of these engines dropped gradually and the speed also decreased with it.
8. Ford Crown Victoria P71
These vehicles were used by the police from 1998 to 2009. This vehicle has a 4.6L V8 engine. That is capable of generating a maximum power output of 250 horsepower. These vehicles can accelerate from 0-60mph in 8 seconds. The top speed of this vehicle 140mph. But it was restricted to 119mph.
