What’s New?
There are not many changes from the 2022 model. While Volvo has given the XC40 Recharge a slight makeover for 2023 which includes a revised front bumper and grille borrowed from the fastback C40 Recharge model. The C40’s more angular LED headlamps also migrate to the XC40 this year. On the inside, the XC40 Recharge gains vegan-friendly vinyl upholstery.
Battery & Performance
All the XC40 Recharge models feature a setup of two electric motors, with one powering the front wheels and the second powering the rears. This gives it a full-time all-wheel drive. The powertrain pumps out a perky 402 horsepower and rockets the XC40 Recharge to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. The ride is compliant and the cruising demeanor is refined. Aggressive riders will find the Polestar 2 a better fit. For one-pedal driving, regenerative braking support is there, which is a desirable and convenient EV feature that is appreciated. A 75.0-kWh battery pack is standard, with an EPA range rating of 223 miles per charge. This range puts the XC40 Recharge on stage to compete with the Audi e-Tron and the Jaguar I-Pace. The charging capabilities are charging at DC fast-charging terminals as well as at-home chargers via a 240-volt outlet.

Replacing Volvo’s current Sensus Connect infotainment system, the XC40 Recharge offers a new generation of software. Which is developed in conjunction with Google’s Android Automotive. The XC40 Recharge’s cousin, the Polestar 2, also offers such an infotainment system. A standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster provides several options for customization.

Volvo likes playing games here, offering 3 different trims for the XC40 Recharge which aren’t that distinct. Coming as Twin for $54,645, Twin Plus for $57,365, and lastly Twin Ultimate for $60,055. We would recommend going with the Twin Ultimate, which doesn’t cost much compared to the mid-range Twin Plus. The Ultimate is loaded with features and is a great deal if compared.
