Xiaomi YU7 Electric SUV Smashes Records with 2 Lakh Orders in Minutes

When Xiaomi pulled the covers off its new YU7 electric SUV, few expected what came next. Within just three minutes, the SUV had racked up more than 200,000 bookings, and in the first hour that number surged to nearly 2.9 lakh orders. This isn’t just a successful launch it’s one of the fastest-selling electric cars in history, and it puts Tesla’s Model Y directly in Xiaomi’s crosshairs.

A Bold and Stylish Design

The YU7 takes inspiration from Xiaomi’s earlier SU7 sedan but adds a bolder, SUV-focused look. It has a coupe-like silhouette with a wide grille, sharp air intakes, and a sloping roofline. The connected LED light bar at the rear adds a modern touch, while flush-fitting door handles keep the look sleek and aerodynamic. Inside, Xiaomi has gone all out to impress. The SUV comes with a 1.1 metre-wide heads-up display and a massive 16.1-inch touchscreen at the center. Everything runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with Xiaomi’s own HyperOS, making it one of the smartest cars on the market. The YU7 also integrates seamlessly with Xiaomi phones and smart-home devices, giving it an edge for loyal fans. Comfort hasn’t been ignored either buyers get premium materials, ambient lighting, a rear-seat projector, magnetic accessories, and a multi-zone climate control system.

Power, Range, and Charging

The YU7 comes in three versions Standard (RWD), Pro (AWD), and Max (AWD). Depending on the variant, buyers can choose between a 96.3kWh battery from BYD or a 101kWh pack from CATL. Range figures are impressive up to 835 km on the Standard model and about 770 km for the Pro. The Max version, built for performance, can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 253 km/h.

Fast charging is another big highlight. Thanks to its 800V platform, the YU7 can charge from 10-80% in just 12 minutes, or add 620 km of range in 15 minutes. That’s quicker than most competitors, including Tesla’s Model Y.

Pricing That Turns Heads

Xiaomi’s pricing strategy is a big reason for the YU7’s instant success. Starting at RMB 253,500 (around ₹29.2 lakh), it’s significantly cheaper than the Tesla Model Y in China. For buyers, that means they get cutting-edge design, long range, and premium features without paying luxury-car prices. Unsurprisingly, this aggressive pricing has made the YU7 one of the most talked-about cars of the year.

Deliveries and Market Impact

Xiaomi began deliveries in July 2025 and crossed the 30,000 unit milestone in the first month. However, demand is so high that waiting times have stretched to nearly a year for some versions. Still, this hasn’t slowed down interest, as Xiaomi continues to ramp up production at its new plant in Beijing.

Industry experts believe the YU7 could change the game for electric SUVs worldwide. While Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed global launch dates yet, markets in Europe and Asia are watching closely. If it expands internationally, the YU7 could become a serious rival not only to Tesla but also to Hyundai, Kia, and Volkswagen.
