In comparison, a hybrid like the Toyota Vellfire still feels safer for long-distance journeys.

Ride Quality Feels a Bit Firm

Another compromise comes in the way the M9 rides. MG has tuned the suspension on the firmer side, which helps keep the car stable at higher speeds. But at city speeds, especially on bumpy roads, the ride can feel a bit unsettled. Add to that the heavy battery pack under the floor, and some of the sharp bumps do make their way into the cabin. For a car aimed at comfort-seekers, this may be something buyers notice.

The MG M9 is a bold move by MG and an important step for India’s EV market. It offers unmatched comfort in the second row, impressive refinement thanks to its electric powertrain, and pricing that undercuts the Vellfire by a wide margin. For families who want a luxury MPV mainly for city use, with chauffeur-driven comfort and plenty of features, the M9 makes a lot of sense.

However, if your lifestyle involves frequent long-distance travel or if you value a cushier ride quality, rivals like the Toyota Vellfire or even the Kia Carnival might serve you better. Still, as India’s first electric luxury MPV, the MG M9 is a big leap forward and shows what the future of premium family cars could look like.
