Cities have become the worst places to drive a car. Because of the crowd, the traffic has increased which ultimately leads to frustration for the driver. With the highly premium cars and bulky SUVs, there is no way one can sneak through the traffic that easily. This is why city cars are made, to be economical, compact, and easy to drive. With only a few manufacturers tried making them there are only a small number of city cars in the market that are actually worth buying. Here is a list of the 10 best city cars ever made.
1. Abarth 500
These cars are being produced since 2007 in Poland and from 2010 in Mexico. The company had to stop production in Mexico 2019. With a market in about 100 countries, the company has produced millions of cars and was named the World’s Most Beautiful Automobile. The car was sold with many engines over the years. The maximum power it could make is 197 hp at 6,500 with a 1.3L inline four-cylinder engine.
2. Brabus Smart ForTwo
Smart ForTwo is a two-passenger car with a rear-wheel drive and rear-mounted engine. This vehicle was first introduced in 1998. And has three generations with impressive design and a well-performing engine. The standard 1.0L engine can develop a 101hp power. Which helps the vehicle to accelerate from 0-60mph in just under 9.5-second and has a top speed of 103mph.
3. Aston Martin Cygnet
This vehicle is a rebadged version of the Toyota iQ. The vehicle went on sale in January 2011. This vehicle has the same 1.3L inline-four engine that is capable of making a power output of 97 hp. This vehicle can accelerate from 0-62mph in 11.6 seconds. In 2018 the company made a one-off special edition for a customer with a 4.7L V8 engine that could make 430 hp.
4. Volkswagen Up GTi
This vehicle has a 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder engine. That is capable of making a power output of 116hp and 199Nm of torque. With the six-speed manual transmission, the car can accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.8sec. The vehicle has a top speed of 120mph.
5. Suzuki Swift Sport
This vehicle has a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of generating a power output of 140hp at 5500rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 2500-3500rpm. The 6-speed transmission helps this vehicle to accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds. The top speed of this vehicle is around 100mph.
6. Mini
This city car was in production from 1959 until 2000. This vehicle was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century beating Citroën DS and Volkswagen Beetle. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, this vehicle has a front-wheel drive and a space-saving transverse engine layout.
7. Honda S660
This vehicle has a rear-wheel drive and a transverse mid-engine layout. The engine is a 658 cc S07A turbo I3 which can generate a power output of 63 hp. The 6-speed manual transmission helps the vehicle to accelerate from 0-60mph in about 10sec and has a top speed of 87mph.
8. Fiat 500
These cars were made from 1957 to 1975. Designed by Dante Giacosa this vehicle has a rear-engine, rear-wheel drive. The vehicle has a 479cc engine that is capable of producing 21hp. The top speed of the vehicle is 50mph and measures only 2.97 metres in length. For the 50th anniversary of this vehicle in 2007, the company launched a new 500 with a front-engine and front-wheel-drive layout.
9. Toyota Aygo
The company started the production of this vehicle in 2005 and ended in 2021. The vehicle has a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and comes with either a 1.0 L 1KR-FE I3 petrol engine or a 1.4 L DV4-TD I4 diesel engine. The petrol engine produces a 68 bhp while the diesel engine produces 54 bhp.
10. BMW Mini One Cooper
This BMW-made vehicle is also called Mini Hatch. The vehicle has a 1.6 L Tritec I4 petrol engine or a 1.4 L I4 diesel engine. While the transmission is a 5-speed manual or a
6-speed automatic and manual. The vehicle has three generations with a front-engine and front-wheel-drive layout.
