2022 Volkswagen Atlas is a big and boxy SUV with a bad reputation, but it’s also a great alternative to a minivan. The expansive cargo area and three-row seating can easily accommodate adults comfortably. The VW also features all the popular driver assists and desirable standard equipment, especially in the middle models of the lineup, improving its value proposition.

The 2022 Atlas is revised, dropping the base S model and making the SE trim the new entry model. Making a higher starting price than the previous year, the Atlas SE with a slight price decrease. And it does come with desirable standard features like a digital gauge cluster. When paired with the Technology Package, the SE now adds USB-C ports in the third row. A new 20-inch-wheel package is also available.

Also, when paired with the optional V6, the SE along with the Tech pack now comes standard with a trailer hitch. However, every SEL model has standard AWD and 20-inch wheels. The interior has a straightforward control layout and an overmuch of cupholders making the car a practical choice. For the tech, Atlas is well connected and ready to entertain. The touchscreen interface is interesting and as responsive as an average smartphone. The SE has a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and two USB ports. The Technology package adds a touchscreen of 8.0 inches on the SE trims the back seat shares three USB ports, and a SiriusXM 360L satellite radio.

The Atlas has a choice of two engines; a 235-hp four-cylinder or a 276-hp V6. Both are coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission with either FWD or AWD. The V6 has refined sound and has a great response to steering inputs. The car has a 0-60 mph run time of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 115 mph. The car can easily serve you with 21 mpg city and 25 mpg highway efficiency.

The V6-powered SE and the Technology package increase the price to just over $40,000. But, those who crave 4Motion AWD can add it for an additional $1900.
