Details, Performance & Acceleration of 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor

2023 Ford F-150 Raptor is a SCORE off-road trophy truck living quietly in an asphalt world. The extra-wide fenders, long-travel suspension, big tires, and high-performance demeanor is the fashion of this Baja-bashing race truck. Most Raptors house a twin-turbo 450-hp V6 mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. However, making it even wilder, the more powerful Raptor R is coming in 2023. This R variant uses a 700-hp version of the Mustang Shelby GT500’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8, which will finally give the 702-hp Ram TRX something equally menacingly to snort at. The R comes with 37-inch BFGoodrich K02 tires as standard, standard rubber for twin-turbo V6 models measures 35 inches, but 37s are optional. Despite the Raptor’s enormity, it is one of the smoothest rides in a full-size pickup. The long-travel suspension is specifically designed to absorb the bumps, dips, and jumps of high-speed off-roading.

What’s New?

The American carmaker adds the mega-pony F-150 Raptor R for the 2023 lineup. The Raptor R houses a 700-hp supercharged 5.2-liter V8 Predator engine from the Mustang GT500. The drivetrain is a 9.75-inch rear axle with an electronically controlled locking rear differential with a 4:10:1 ratio as standard. The 37-inch tires are standard equipment. Ford also gives the R stiffer front springs and specially tuned dampers to handle the extra weight. The R comes with carbon-fiber accents throughout the cabin and an upholstery mixed with black leather and microsuede with Recaro front seats as standard.

Under the Raptor’s new hood, which now features a prominent heat extractor. Which is the familiar high-performance version of Ford’s 450-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. The oxygen supply is through a new 3.0-inch exhaust system that reportedly enhances the truck’s V6 soundtrack. The engine still mates with a paddle-shifted 10-speed automatic transmission spinning all four wheels through a standard all-wheel-drive system. For the buyers, who want even more aggressive power, just wait.

The Raptor R is an even bigger predator. It is powered by a 700-hp version of the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 from the Shelby GT500, but with 640 pound-feet of torque. Every Raptor rides on a conventional suspension including larger internal-bypass dampers and a five-link rear coil-spring setup. Along with other chassis enhancements, a selection of 17-inch rims, and a standard set of 35-inch tires, the Raptor is also available with a set of 37-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.

The F-150 Raptor is EPA-rated up to 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. And opting for the larger 37-inch tires can reduce those figures to 14 mpg city and 16 highway. The Raptor R hasn’t been certified by the EPA yet. For a highly-performing pickup, the fuel efficiency is good, and expected that it won’t take a toll when hauling goods.
