2023 Mercedes-AMG GLE-Class ditches the Benz branding and beautifully sports the AMG treatment. This makes the mid-size SUV more powerful, a much more performance-oriented suspension setup, and plenty of design twGLE classeaks. Mercedes-AMG offers the GLE-class models in both wagon and fastback body styles, as well as in GLE53 and 63 S guises too. The former houses a 429-hp forced induction straight-six under its hood, while the latter relies on a 603-hp twin-turbocharged V8 for any time performing. Both have standard all-wheel drive. It has spacious first and seconds row sitting but optional third row is quite cramped and feels comfortable only for childrens. Although their cargo capacity is less, the hunchbacked AMG GLE53 and GLE63 S Coupes are pricier than their squareback counterparts.
Mercedes celebrates the 55th anniversary of the AMG performance brand. And even more, Mercedes-AMG is offering the GLE class for a limited Edition 55 for 2023. This special edition includes unique cues such as side-mounted Edition 55 graphics, matte-gray 22-inch wheels with exclusive center caps, and a steering wheel with celebratory badging. Inside, the two giant digital displays cover the dashboard. The interior is sportier than the standard Benz models, though, the AMG models come with sports seats with red stitching, a sport steering wheel, red seatbelts, and aluminum trim bits.
Engine & Performance
The GLE53 sports a nine-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. Its engine is complemented by an electric supercharger which is powered by a 48-volt electrical system. Paired with GLE53’s turbocharged 3.0L inline-six-cylinder engine, the SUV pumps out 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. This setup catapulted a GLE53 Coupe from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds to a quarter-mile in 13.4 seconds at 103 mph. When comparing this with a Benz 362-hp GLE450, that deeds in 5.3 seconds and 13.9 seconds at 100 mph, respectively. The SUV also sports a trick suspension consisting of an air-bag system coupled with active anti-roll bars which provide cornering capabilities without sacrificing ride quality. The Coupe feels even smooth on uneven roads, and switching its drive mode to Sport or Sport Plus stiffens up the suspension.
|2023 Mercedes-AMG GLE-Class Mileage||City||Highway|
|GLE53||18 mpg||23 mpg|
|squareback||18 mpg||23 mpg|
|fastback||14 pg||22 mpg|
Keeping the body style aside, the GLE53 carries a city rating of 18 mpg, but the squareback is rated at 23 mpg on the highway, while the fastback is rated at 22 mpg. If one is considering such heavy body, then burning a hole in wallet for fuel is not a great deal.

The GLE53 offers the same cargo space as the GLE450, making space for a whopping 11 carry-on suitcases behind the second row of seats and, with the rear seats stowed, room for up to 26 cases. Twin 12.3-inch infotainment displays cover the GLE’s dashboard and, just as in lesser Benz-branded GLE classes, the AMG models support the latest MBUX software interface.
|2023 Mercedes-AMG GLE-Class Pricing||Price (USD)|
|AMG GLE53||$76,000 (est)|
|AMG GLE63 S||$115,000 (est)|
We’d recommend sticking to the more conventional and boxier GLE-class SUV. Black and Polar White are the only no-cost paint options, but pairing it with a more sinister color with the AMG Night package includes blacked-out exterior trim. Multicontour front seats with massage and rapid heating functions are also must-haves.
