2023 Nissan Altima arrived with a revised front end and tech upgrades keeping the sedan fresh. Available in S, SV, SR, SL, and SR VC-Turbo trim levels. Pricing isn’t released yet. The revamped Altima lost the V-shaped chrome element on the nose with a waterfall-looking design. The new Nissan logo is in the center. It receives a better-looking front fascia along with a handful of tech upgrades. It is a mildly facelifted version of the 6th generation model that is on sale currently. Coming to the highlights, the new Altima gets a larger black grille, redesigned headlamps, and a set of new 19-inch alloys. It is impressively fuel efficient for a non-hybrid vehicle. A roomy interior, comfortable seating, and an optional 12.3-inch infotainment screen, is a solid offering of standard safety features. Even if it lacks the engagement of the Honda Accord or the refinement of the Toyota Camry.

What’s New?
The vehicle’s exterior design doesn’t change much, SV trim gets newly designed 17-inch wheels. The SR, SL, and SR VC-Turbo floats on redesigned 19-inch wheels. The SR model has a black chrome grille and comes with LED headlights as standard. Nissan has also added two new exterior colors: Gray Sky Pearl and Garnett Pearl Metallic. The interior has some minor changes. A 12.3-inch infotainment display on the SL and SR VC-Turbo replacing the previous 8.0-inch unit.
Engine & Performance
The Altima houses a standard 188-hp 2.5-Liter four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The optional turbocharged 2.0-Liter four-cylinder pumps 248 horsepower with premium fuel and also uses a CVT. This Nissan touts the innovative variable-compression technology, only the 2.5-Liter engine can be had with all-wheel drive. The standard four-pot and all-wheel drive have predictable, albeit unremarkable, acceleration. The engine grows to be noisier the harder the gas pedal is pressed. The VC-Turbo engine makes the Altima significantly quicker. The Altima SR features a sport-tuned suspension and 19-inch wheels making it more entertaining on twisty sections of the road. However, these upgrades also reduce the ride quality found on regular Altima models. Surprisingly, the top-of-the-line SL model has more cornering grip than the 2019 BMW 330i xDrive.
Fuel Economy
2023 Nissan Altima Mileage | City | Highway |
Base AWD | 26 mpg | 36 mpg |
Turbocharged | 25 mpg | 34 mpg |
The Altima doesn’t offer a fuel-saving hybrid model, but it is still fuel efficient as compared to many of its rivals. Its two gasoline engines have lofty fuel-economy ratings and even better real-world results. The front-wheel drive, the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine gets an EPA-estimated 28 mpg city and 39 highway. With all-wheel drive, those EPA estimates drop to 26 mpg city and 36 mpg on the highway. The turbocharged 2.0-liter gets an EPA estimated 25 mpg city and 34 mpg on the highway.

Pricing
2023 Nissan Altima Pricing | Price (USD) |
S | $26,200 (est) |
SV | $27,200 (est) |
SR | $28,200 (est) |
SL | $36,000 (est) |
The price hasn’t been revealed yet, but the reportedly expected base price would be $26,000 with sales starting this fall. Unlike the Accord and Hyundai Sonata, the Altima offers two features they don’t. All-wheel drive and a unique VC-Turbo engine. While the benefits of the latter are hard to quantify, the $1400 all-wheel-drive system might attract sedan shoppers who live in the Snowbelt. Still, we’d recommend the SR trim level and skip both options.
