2023 Subaru Impreza isn’t that remarkable car, but at its price point, it’s a decent compact car. The smallest of Subaru’s family, the Impreza is available in both a sedan and a hatchback. All-wheel drive is standard, and a spunky ride and a feasible interior design are among Impreza’s highlights. The car also offers plenty of safety features, which include driver-assistance tech in CVT-equipped vehicles. Buyers can opt for a manual gearbox or a CVT. While we are happy that Subaru offers a manual, its five-speed isn’t the one we’d recommend, as it is not accurate enough. Talking about the Fuel economy, too, is worse with the stick. But even with the CVT, the car struggles to take on fuel mileage with its more efficient rivals. Overall, Impreza is a suitable choice for most purposes, but rivals such as Honda Civic and the Mazda 3 simply have more to offer.
The Impreza is still the same for 2023, with the compact car offering the same set of features in the same package as last year. The only change comes from the pricing department. The Impreza’s interior isn’t stylish enough style, but it’s tops in design. The gauges are easy to read, and simple controls and intuitive climate control make this car a breeze to operate. The cabin has plenty of soft-touch plastics, cushy armrests, and an impressive fit and finish. Also, tall drivers will appreciate the model’s ample front-seat legroom.
Engine & Performance
The Impreza is literally a tortoise in a class full of hares. With a four-pot engine pumping out 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is standard. With little low-end acceleration, both the sedan and hatchback require considerable press to keep the engine where it needs to be. The five-speed manual transmission in the Impreza Sport sedan performs less lethargically than the CVT of the Sport hatch. But we also prefer the automatic, due to the manual’s faulty and imprecise nature. The Impreza touches the near-perfect balance between ride and handling. The body doesn’t pull in turns, and the quick steering gives the compact car an additional sense of nerve. The Sport variant’s brake pedal is relatively firm and short stopping distance during emergency-braking situations. The brand equips automatic transmission models with its EyeSight suite of driver-assistance technologies. While the buyers of the manual are out of luck.

Any Impreza with the CVT will please you with its fuel economy. Opting for the manual transmission will make you visit your local gas station more frequently. The most efficient Impreza earns 28 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, per the EPA; the least-efficient model a hatchback with a manual transmission is rated for 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

For feasibility, we would recommend the hatch over the sedan. The Premium model provides the best combination of features and value. Features like steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, heated front seats, and a host of driver assists are all standard. The enhanced infotainment system includes a SiriusXM satellite radio, an extra USB port, and integrated smartphone apps. The lone option package can also be added, as it brings blind-spot monitoring with a rear-cross-traffic alert, passive hands-free entry, and more.
