The BMW X5 strikes a balance between the exhilarating drive of a Porsche Cayenne and the smoothness of a Genesis GV80. Positioned for broad appeal, the X5 offers three powertrain options. Including a refined inline-six, a powerful twin-turbo V8, and an eco-friendly plug-in hybrid. The cabin exudes luxury with premium materials and integrated technology, featuring a sleek curved digital display spanning the dashboard’s length. On the other hand, Lincoln’s mid-size luxury crossover, now in its second generation, undergoes a substantial overhaul. Equipped with optional 310-hp hybrid power, standard AWD, and an expansive interior. The updated model boasts a 250-hp turbocharged engine, providing more legroom for all passengers. The dashboard features a customizable 48.0-inch digital display, showcasing navigation, a clock, stereo settings, and weather forecasts.

The X5 has three different power setups, each linked to a specific model. X5s with the sDrive40i or xDrive40i labels get a 375-hp turbocharged inline-six engine. The plug-in hybrid xDrive50e combines a turbocharged inline-six with an electric motor for 483 hp. Lastly, the M60i packs a powerful punch with its 523-hp twin-turbo V8, standing out as the leader. All three powertrains work with an eight-speed automatic transmission, ensuring drivers have more than enough power for any driving situation.
Price & Mileage
The BMW X5 has a starting price of $66,195 for the sDrive40i and can go up to $90,295 for the xDrive M60i. The fuel economy estimates for the plug-in hybrid xDrive50e are not available from the EPA yet. But the sDrive40i with RWD and the xDrive40i with AWD are rated at 23 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The V8-powered M60i model is expected to get around 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
Acceleration & Features
The xDrive40i with 335 hp manages a quick 4.8-second run to 60 mph. The M60i, with its robust 523-hp twin-turbo V8, impressively accelerates to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. On a test track, the xDrive50e, the plug-in hybrid, sprinted to 60 mph in the same quick time of 3.9 seconds. Stepping into the X5’s cabin reveals a curved display wall spanning two-thirds of the dashboard. A 12.3-inch screen is a gauge display, while a larger 14.9-inch touchscreen provides access to BMW’s iDrive infotainment interface. Users can control the system via a center-console-mounted rotary knob. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot.

Engine & Performance
Every Nautilus is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four engine. In non-hybrid models, this translates to 250 hp and 275 bl-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid version supplements the turbocharged engine with a 100 kW electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 310 hp. The hybrid utilizes a continuously variable transmission. Both powertrains are connected to an AWD system.
Price & Mileage
The Lincoln Nautilus is priced at $52,010 for the Premiere, reaching $77,360 for the Black Label Hybrid. The previous 330-hp twin-turbo V6 option has been discontinued, aligning with the current trend for enhanced fuel efficiency in the new model’s powertrains. While specific fuel-economy estimates for the new Nautilus are yet to be released by both the EPA and Lincoln, considering the comparable power outputs, it is anticipated that the base-engine model will maintain approximately 22 mpg in both city and highway driving.
Acceleration & Features
On the performance front, it remains to be seen whether the new Nautilus can match the previous generation’s impressive 5.9-second acceleration to 60 mph with the twin-turbo V6. Lincoln emphasizes the class-leading 48.0-inch display area across the top of the Nautilus dashboard, although, in vertical measurement, it’s not quite an IMAX theatre. Alongside the expansive screen, there’s a high-resolution 11.1-inch infotainment touchscreen positioned at the centre of the dash. The Nautilus features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with built-in Alexa capable of handling voice commands.
