Think of it like a love letter to the Shelbys and the Mustang Mach 1 with its bold new design. Ford unveiled the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse alongside the new seventh-generation Ford Mustang cars. The Dark Horse is a complete new streak of Mustang with no related history with the older models. The Dark Horse is based on the new Ford Mustang GT V8, but the Dark Horse looks more desirable. The race-oriented Mustang offers standard performance-spec features with new options to increase its track capabilities. The Mustang Dark Horse although not carry the Shelby badge, shares the carbon-fiber wheels similar to the GT350 and the GT500 cars. It is the first time in history that Ford is offering the race equip Mustang with no Shelby badge.
Engine & Performance:
The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse comes with a single variant and comes with Ford’s Coyote V8. The car comes with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that makes over 500 horsepower. The engine comes paired with a Tremec 6-speed manual or Ford’s 10-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive. The Dark Horse offers new dual throttle with two air intakes tuned to pass on maximum air in the engine. This is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 Ford has ever built.
The Dark Horse Looks Evil:
The name is inspired by the car’s sleek, dark design that gives out a different kind of vibe, Krenz said. Compared to the GT models, the Mustang Dark Horse looks aggressive and a step further in appeal. The Dark Horse features a bigger grille design and open nostrils for more air intake and cooling of the engine. The car also features smoked headlights and taillights to appear racier and match the car’s aggressive looks.
The Mustang Dark Horse features a fixed rear spoiler and dark horse badge on the front fenders and decklids. The rear bumper adds quad exhausts and a large rear diffuser for more aerodynamics and downforce. Ford has painted the car with an exclusive Blue Ember metallic paint to identify the Dark Horse from the crowd. It will also offer new graphics pre-applied or in the painted form in different designs and color schemes.
More Upgrades:
The 2024 Mustang Dark Horse comes with adaptive dampers from MegneRide. It rides on a new carbon-fiber 19-inch wheel with Pirelli P Zero PZ4 summer tires. The Mustang offers Brembo 6-piston front calipers with 13.9-inch rotors for all Dark Horse models. The new rims are 10-inches wideout and 9.5-inches wide up with an increased 10.5 and 11-inches of width. An optional Handling package includes stickier Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires that add more grip to the track. It also includes stiffer springs, thicker front, and rear sway bars, and a Gunray flap with a rear wing for more downforce.
The 2024 Mustang Dark Horse features a redesigned cabin with a tech-focused approach similar to other 2024 Mustangs. It features a new 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster with a 13.2-inch infotainment screen. The Mustang features Ford’s new Sync 4 system with over-the-air updates and features designed especially for the Mustang. Ford offers an appearance package with newly designed seats in a Deep Indigo Blue color. Ford hasn’t revealed any official pricing of the car. We expect the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse will cost over $60,000 with an increment in price if you add the optional packages. We expect the new Dark Horse to arrive on the roads in May 2023.
