Mercedes-Benz is discontinuing its C-class and E-class coupes and introducing the 2024 CLE-class as their replacement. In the sports sedan category, the CT5-V Blackwing from Cadillac stands out as a high-performance option. It maintains its powerful engine, stylish appearance, and excellent handling, making it a top choice. Compared to competitors like the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63, which are all-wheel drive and have complex technology, the CT5-V Blackwing excels with its rear-wheel drive, relatively affordable price, and finely tuned chassis.

The base CLE300 is equipped with the same M254 engine found in the C300 and E350 sedans. A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that delivers 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. If you opt for the CLE450, you’ll get the M256 motor from the E450 sedan. A turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six generates an impressive 375 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. Both powertrains feature an integrated starter generator powered by a 48-volt electrical system. Which provides an additional 23 hp and 148 pound-feet of torque. This extra power is seamlessly delivered at lower rpm to minimize turbo lag and enhance the start/stop system. Power in both models is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Which conveniently houses the electric motor, power electronics, and transmission cooler, resulting in space and weight savings.
Price & Features
Details regarding pricing for the 2024 CLE class are yet to be announced and are expected to be revealed closer to the on-sale date. In comparison, the 2023 C300 coupe had a starting price of $50,600, while the 2023 E450 coupe was priced at $70,800. Based on this, we anticipate the CLE300 to have a starting price around the $60,000 range. While the CLE450 should start near the $70,000 mark. Mercedes is incorporating artificial intelligence into the CLE, similar to the 2024 E-class, to learn the driver’s preferred comfort settings in specific situations and automatically adjust the systems accordingly. The CLE will also offer convenient features such as remote start, proximity unlock/lock, and hands-free access to the trunk by simply waving your foot in front of the rear bumper sensor.
Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

The CT5-V Blackwing doesn’t feature the twin-turbo Blackwing V-8 engine found in the discontinued CT6-V. Instead, it boasts an updated version of the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 from the previous CTS-V, generating an impressive 668 horsepower. You can choose between a six-speed manual or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission. Despite its sporty nature, the CT5-V Blackwing offers a comfortable ride and handles sharply. Its acceleration is truly explosive, as evidenced by its impressive 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds during testing with the six-speed manual. With the optional automatic transmission, it’s estimated to reach 60 mph in as little as 3.4 seconds.
Price & Features
The driver can choose between a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission, which provides slightly faster acceleration to 60 mph. We recommend sticking with the manual transmission as it adds to the rarity and enjoyment of the driving experience. For added comfort, we suggest opting for the performance front bucket seats and, if affordable, the carbon-backed high-performance seats.
