The sexier sibling of the marginally more practical GLB-class SUV is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. The sleeker GLA is a superior option for individuals who choose style over utility in an SUV since it makes up for what it loses in interior and load room with improved design. The chic, contemporary interior is tastefully decorated with high-end materials. The subcompact crossover’s composed handling complements the GLA’s 221 horsepower turbo-four engine, which can adequately power either the front or all four wheels. Check out the significantly more potent AMG GLA45 if you’re looking for a GLA that will light up your synapses with its performance. The GLA-Class, on the other hand, should beautifully satisfy your demands and needs if you’re searching for a stylish form of transportation with enough room and a fair dosage of elegance and sophistication.
What’s New?
For the 2024 model year, Mercedes has refreshed the GLA-Class by giving it a new front look with high-output LED headlights and a newly sculpted rear end with modernized taillights. The GLA-class is equipped with a hybrid-assist technology under the hood, which is supposed to improve the engine efficiency without necessarily boosting performance. Other improvements include cordless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a now standard 10.3-inch infotainment display, and the most recent software. Additionally, the Parking package, Mirror package, Keyless GO package, and High Beam Assist are all now included as standard equipment.
Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration
A 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 221 horsepower and hybrid assistance powers the 2024 GLA-class. Additionally, an eight-speed automatic gearbox that can send power to the front or all four wheels is mated to the turbo-four. Although we haven’t yet driven a GLA equipped with the new hybrid technology, we anticipate that performance numbers won’t change. A previous model year all-wheel drive GLA250 4Matic completed our test track in 6.3 seconds, which is acceptable but not particularly quick when compared to several EV SUVs. The previous-generation device managed a 5.7-second result in the identical test, so this result is slower. The GLA250’s handling is composed, and its suspension is supple enough over bumpy sections of the road to avoid becoming boorish, even though it is not intended to be a sporty SUV.

For the GLA-Class in 2024, the EPA has not yet released figures. Given the installation of the hybrid-assist system, we anticipate that the numbers will increase. For comparison, the 2023 GLA250 was estimated to achieve 28 mpg combined, 34 mpg on the interstate, and 24 mpg in the city. The fuel economy ratings for the all-wheel drive GLA250 4Matic were 23 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg in the city.
Dimensions & Space
Two 10.3-inch displays, one for the infotainment system and one for the driver’s gauge display, are standard on every 2024 GLA. The Mercedes lineup has been updated with this marginally improved setup, to our editors’ mixed opinions. The touchscreen, voice commands, or the touchpad controller in the center console can all be used to control the system. While GPS, SiriusXM satellite radio, a head-up display, and a Burmester premium audio system are all options, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

Even if nobody who purchases a GLA250 is going to go off-roading, choosing the 4Matic option provides more features than simply all-wheel drive. The Off-Road Engineering package, which by default comes with that model from Mercedes, offers an off-road driving mode with reduced throttle response and power delivery. When driving through deep snow, for example, some drivers could find it advantageous. We’d be tempted to install the Burmester surround sound system as well because we value having a good music experience when driving.
