Nissan Z Specifications & Features
The 2024 Nissan Z is a funky sports coupe with a legendary past of providing inexpensive and enjoyable two-door vehicles since 1969. The new Z prioritizes power and driving fun while incorporating retro details like the 240Z’s quarter-panel logo and a set of dramatic LED taillights designed to resemble the 300ZX of the 1990s. The Infiniti Q50 Red Sport provides the Z’s 400-hp twin-turbo V6 engine. But the Z may be ordered with either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The new Z’s interior offers a more affluent feel with improved seats and a telescopic steering wheel. Despite sharing many of the joints and bones with the previous generation 370Z. The Z still provides driving thrills, and we’re happy to see it back in the sports car segment even though it may not be as exhilarating to accelerate as the Toyota Supra.
What’s New?
Last year saw the eagerly awaited return of the Z, and now, in 2024. This iconic rear-wheel drive coupe is set to rev things up with the introduction of the performance-oriented NISMO variant. The Z NISMO is dialed up for power, boasting 420 horsepower (an increase from the standard 400) and 384 pound-feet of torque (up from the standard 350 pound-feet). Along with a limited-slip differential, upgraded wheels, an enhanced braking system, a more rigid suspension, and sophisticated bodywork enhancements. This evolution of the Z promises to take the driving experience to a whole new level. Making it a must-see for enthusiasts and aficionados.
Nissan Z Engine, Power, Acceleration & Performance
Similar to its high-performance sibling, the Nissan GT-R, the Z boasts a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. However, in contrast to the GT-R’s formidable 565-hp 3.8-liter powerhouse, the Z adopts a 400-hp 3.0-liter engine sourced from the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400. Delivering 350 pound-feet of torque. This engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged six-cylinder engine provides ample acceleration for the rear-wheel-drive Z. Though the manual variant takes 4.5 seconds to reach 60 mph, slightly slower than the Supra. Opting for the nine-speed automatic shaves that time down to 4.3 seconds. While the Z offers a commendable cornering grip within its limits, aggressive driving exposes some limitations in its suspension tuning. It strikes a balance between comfort during daily commuting and razor-sharp reflexes found in competing sports cars.
While we haven’t had the opportunity to conduct a hands-on evaluation. The Z NISMO takes things up a notch in the performance department, boasting a robust 420 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. This power boost is complemented by a suite of enhancements, including larger brake discs, a firmer suspension setup, and reinforced chassis integrity. In the case of the NISMO variant. Nissan has opted to replace the Bridgestone Potenza S007 summer tires with Dunlop Sport MAXX GT600 rubber, a move aimed at further elevating its on-road prowess.

As per EPA findings, the Z’s automatic transmission variant emerges as the more fuel-efficient choice. It achieves an impressive 19 mpg in city driving and a commendable 28 mpg on the highway. Opting for the manual transmission slightly diminishes these figures to 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Interestingly, the 420-hp Z NISMO, despite its added power and weight. Doesn’t veer significantly from the standard Z, maintaining EPA-estimated ratings of 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
