Unlike many competitors, the Tacoma lineup offers diverse options with two cab and bed configurations. The powertrain features a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine with varying output levels, and the hybrid iForce Max, delivers 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, surpassing other trucks in its class. This hybrid setup is standard in the Trailhunter and the top off-road TRD Pro models. The 2024 Tacoma undergoes a complete redesign, marking its fourth generation in the mid-size pickup truck category. It now shares a version of the body-on-frame TNGA-F platform with the recently revamped Toyota Tundra. The redesign brings updated powertrains, modern features, and an expanded range of trim levels. Including the new Trailhunter designed for overlanding enthusiasts.
Toyota Tacoma Engine, Power & Performance
Under the hood of every Tacoma is a turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine, available in various configurations. It teams up with either an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual, offering options for RWD or 4WD. The base SR starts with a 228-hp turbo four. While the rest of the lineup boasts more potent iForce versions, reaching up to 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. The iForce Max, available only with automatic transmission, leads the pack with a hybrid setup, packing 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. Incorporating an electric motor and a small nickel-metal hydride battery. Despite all Tacomas having a body-on-frame construction, there are two rear suspension types. Leaf springs for SR, SR5 extended cab, and TRD PreRunner, and coil springs for the rest.

Most Tacomas come equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen as the default infotainment system. However, the larger 14.0-inch touchscreen comes into play with the Limited model, taking centre stage on the Trailhunter and TRD Pro as well.
