The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe is a robust, truck-based SUV designed for substantial passenger and cargo capacity, along with impressive towing capabilities. With a choice of two V8 engines and a diesel inline-six, it’s well-suited for towing. The Z71 model is equipped for off-road adventures. Inside, it accommodates up to eight passengers across three rows, offering a range from modest to luxurious interiors. While not as abundant as its counterparts like the GMC Yukon Denali or Cadillac Escalade. It stands out for its on-road refinement. The spacious interior features a prominent infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Comparable SUVs like the Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, and Nissan Armada provide similar offerings, but the Tahoe’s superior on-road performance is a noteworthy advantage. If you need even more space, its extended version, the Suburban, is available for larger hauling needs.

For 2025, the Tahoe gets a subtle facelift and an updated interior. Featuring a standard 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster. While the V8 engine options remain consistent. The optional diesel inline-six gets a power boost to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. Several new towing aids, including tire health monitoring for trailers, have been introduced. Chevy has also tweaked the suspension for enhanced comfort, and air springs are now available on the RST trim in addition to Z71 and High Country models. The lineup boasts new wheel options, including impressive 24-inch designs, the largest ever for the Tahoe.
Chevrolet Tahoe Engine, Power & Performance
Most Tahoes come equipped with a V8 engine. Either a 355-hp 5.3L or a 420-hp 6.2L paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. RWD is standard on most models, with AWD available as an option. An optional diesel 3.0L inline-six produces 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. Using the same 10-speed automatic, and is available across all trims. The Tahoe Z71, tailored for off-road adventures, features a two-speed transfer case for traditional 4WD, 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and underbody protection. A pre-facelift Tahoe Z71 with the 5.3L V8 exhibited satisfactory acceleration, a firm brake pedal, and an impressively quiet cabin at highway speeds.
The Z71 can be equipped with an air spring suspension system, allowing the driver to adjust the Tahoe’s ride height for off-road challenges. This feature is also available on RST and High Country models. Beyond accommodating eight passengers, the Tahoe boasts a towing capacity of up to 8400 pounds, rivalling some full-size pickup trucks. Achieving this requires RWD and the 5.3L V8. Opting for the 6.2L V8 reduces the maximum tow rating to 8300 pounds. While the diesel engine enables the Tahoe to tow up to 8200 pounds.

The EPA has not disclosed fuel economy estimates for the 2025 Tahoe as of now. However, indications suggest little to no deviation from the previous year’s model. In 2024, the diesel variant stood out as the most fuel-efficient Tahoe. Boasting ratings of 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The standard 5.3L V8 exhibited slightly better city fuel efficiency compared to the optional 6.2L V8, with both achieving up to 20 mpg on the highway.

Every Tahoe comes equipped with a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, positioned at a driver-friendly angle for convenient access to radio, navigation, phone, and other functions. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The dashboard also hosts an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Optional upgrades include a Bose stereo system and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual displays mounted behind the front seats.

We think the mid-level RST and Z71 models offer the best value, with the former being flashier and the latter being geared toward adventurous folk who occasionally go off-roading. We prefer the Z71’s standard four-wheel drive, rugged appearance, and exclusive off-road equipment. We’d also upgrade from the standard 5.3L V8 to the optional 6.2L V8, which brings an extra 65 hp.
