Overview
2023 Genesis Electric G80 is a gas-to-electric converted mid-size luxury sedan. The G80’s M3 platform heavily benefits from the additional engineering and lightweight materials, which includes the redesigning of some steel pieces in aluminum or carbon fiber. Genesis claims that chassis stiffness went up by 17%. Also, the brand claims the Electrified G80 is 600 pounds heavier than the AWD gas version.
What’s New?
The EV model’s roof now sits 0.2 inches higher, but it has some unique features like a solid crest grille embossed with diagonal lines, a lack of tailpipes, and 19-inch turbine-style wheels. There are exclusive paint options also, including Matira Blue, named after the coruscant turquoise waters of Bora Bora’s Matira Beach. The front fascia’s diagonal grille pattern blends well with the charge port door. The interior changes are more effective with the raised floor accommodating the battery reduces headroom by 0.8 inches in front and 1.5 inches in back.

But, there are no changes in the luxury department though, as the G80’s cabin remains a good place to make the day better. Using sustainability materials, the micro suede headliner is composed of recycled plastics and an under-carpet lining derived from nylon scraps. The Nappa leather has a treatment of pine-tree bark and buckwheat for the dyeing process. The interior tones are black and brown, a two-tone Glacier White and dark green cabin exclusive to the Electrified G80. That small décor trims are made up of forged wood, and discarded birch compressed in resin to create a marbled veneer.

Battery, Performance, Range & 0-60 Mph
The G80’s engine replacement features the power of electronics. The twin-turbo 3.5L V6 is replaced by an 87.2-kWh battery under the floor. The E-G80 is exclusive in a dual-motor AWD config, with a combined output of 365 hp and 701 Nm of torque. The company claims the sprint time of 0-60 mph at 4.9 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds slower than the combustion variant. The charger is a 350-kW DC fast-charger, with a battery needing a claimed 22 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. When plugged in a Level 2 outlet, Genesis says, empty to full will take a little over seven hours. Also, according to Genesis, the range is 282 miles.
