Tesla Recalls More Than 1.1 Million Cars In U.S Over Window Reversal Update

Tesla is recalling more than 1.1 million Tesla cars in the U.S due to its faulty window reversal system update. The new system update may not work correctly after detecting an obstruction on the road which increases the risk of damage.

About:

Reuters reported that the EV giant told NHTSA that it will push an OTA software update of the auto window reversal system. The Tesla recalls include the Tesla Model 3 (2017-2022), Model Y (2020-2021), Model S (2021-2022), & Model X. The automaker is currently unaware of any warranty claims, field reports, injuries, crashes, or deaths due to the recall. According to NHTSA, a faulty automatic reversing system increases the risk of injury by pinching the driver before retracting by excessive force. The vehicles failed to comply according to the federal motor vehicle safety standards on power windows. Tesla employees identified that the automatic window reversal system performance is “greater than expected variations in response to pinch detection.”

Tesla confined that the retraction performance and pinch detection system didn’t meet the system requirements after additional testing. Starting Sept. 13, all cars in pre-delivery and production got a software update that sets the automatic windows to meet the requirements. The new software update enhances the vehicles’ power-window reversal system performance, Tesla said further.

On Thursday afternoon, Tesla shares went down by 3.5%. CEO Elon Musk on Twitter criticized for the explanation of the callback termed a recall. “The terminology is outdated & inaccurate. This is a tiny over-the-air software update. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no injuries,” Musk said via Twitter.
