Ford is anticipated to make a comeback in India as early as 2025. They will introduce CBU units of the next-generation Endeavour and Mustang Mach-E. There have been reports of the American automaker recruiting personnel for various roles as well. Ford previously relied on domestic sales and exports from India using its production plant in Maraimalai Nagar. However, it couldn’t meet the expected volume figures and exited local sales in late 2021, shocking the industry.

Tata Motors later acquired Ford’s plant at Sanand through a subsidiary in early 2023. It is now speculated that Ford will reintroduce itself by initially selling CBU units of the next-gen Endeavour in 2025, with local production likely to follow soon after. The Mustang Mach-E is also expected to accompany the Endeavour, as its name has been trademarked in India.

Rumors have suggested since Ford’s exit that full imports like the Mustang Mach-E would enter the market. While this hasn’t materialized yet, the trademark application indicates Ford’s intention to re-enter India. Ford may take advantage of homologation relaxation and bring the Mustang Mach-E via the CBU channel. Globally, it is available with 72 kWh and 91 kWh battery pack options, offering rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.

The base Mach-E produces 269 hp and 430 Nm, while the larger battery pack variant offers 294 hp and 530 Nm, with a claimed driving range of up to 600 km on a single charge. The exact variants offered in India are yet to be confirmed, but the top-spec GT AWD, generating 487 hp and 850 Nm, is expected to be popular. It boasts a claimed range of 489 km. The Ford Mustang Mach-E will compete with models like the Audi Q8 e-tron and Mercedes EQE, with prices likely starting at over Rs. 1 crore.
