Honda Will Discontinue Making Diesel Cars In India: Reports

According to soe reports, Honda will likely to discontiue making diesel-powered cars in India in few years. Due to the stricter emission standard coming in India the Japanese automaker will not make diesel models. The carmaker is increasing itsefforts in making more environment-friendly cars with their electrified tech. The Honda City Hybrid which the automaker luanched few months ago is selling like hot cakes. The strong hybrid sedan is winning many hearts due to its high fuel economy and low carbon-emissions.

President & CEO of Honda Cars India, Takuya Tsumura told TOI, that the company is facing hardships in passing BSVI norms. He is also not thinking about as the fuel type will be not viable in India soon, and is already discontinued in Europe. As the industry is preparing to make more carbon-efficient cars, the diesel fuel type cars will be gone before this decade. The upcoming RDE and CAFE regulations will be harder to pass as they lower CO2 emissions from the resent standard. The new emission regulations wil take effect next year in April 2023 and will force automaker to meet the standards.

Moreover, Honda plans to built more electric cars with locally sourced materials. It is unclear whether the automaker will be developing strong hybrids or aboilish diesel cars soon. We know that they have big things in motion to electrifiy their lineup and further meet the CO2 regulatory stanards. The Japanese automaker is planning a complete lineup of electric models with SUVs, compact cars and even sedans. Honda’s future cars will rival cars from all important segment in all category.
